Fallout 76 has surpassed 25 million players. Senior Bethesda officials formally confirmed the massive milestone as part of a recent overview of what is to come to Fallout 76 in the near future.

Official Fallout 76 player count updates were not always a regular occurrence, particularly during the game’s earliest years. Following its less-than-stellar November 2018 launch, Bethesda initially focused much of its communication on stabilizing and reshaping the online RPG based on player feedback, eventually making major departures from its original design with updates such as Wastelanders. Released in April 2020, the expansion introduced NPCs, dialogue trees, factions, a reputation system, and a new main storyline, significantly changing a game originally envisioned as a world populated exclusively by players.

Fallout 76 Creative Director Jonathan Rush and Production Director Bill LaCoste confirmed the new player milestone as part of the recently concluded Fallout Day celebrations in late October 2026, during a video that was largely focused on previewing the upcoming World Pets update. After revealing that the live-service game had surpassed 25 million lifetime players, the pair thanked the community for its continued support and reiterated that Bethesda remains committed to maintaining a steady content pipeline. The announcement arrived weeks before Fallout 76 is scheduled to celebrate its eighth anniversary on November 14.

Fallout 76 Lifetime Player Count History

  • November 2021: 11 million
  • June 2022: 12 million
  • June 2023: 15 million
  • May 2024: 20 million
  • June 2025: 23 million
  • October 2026: 25 million

As of late 2026, Bethesda’s official player-count disclosures point to steady growth over the past several years. The company reported 12 million players by June 2022, crossed the 15 million mark a year later, and reached 20 million in May 2024 before adding another five million over the following two and a half years. The developer’s earliest public confirmation of a cumulative Fallout 76 player count came in November 2021, when the company said more than 11 million people had played the spin-off RPG.

None of those figures should be equated with sales, which are ostensibly only a fraction of the total player count. That is primarily because the game has long been accessible via subscription services. Fallout 76 has been on Xbox Game Pass since July 2020, arriving two months before the official announcement of Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media, which was completed the following March. It has later joined the PlayStation Now streaming service catalog, which was eventually folded into modern PS Plus tiers. Finally, Sony’s subscribers had a chance to claim it as one of the PS Plus monthly games for January 2023.

One of the sharpest periods of growth coincided with the resurgence of interest in the franchise following the premiere of Amazon’s Fallout TV adaptation in April 2024. Bethesda reported that more than one million people played Fallout 76 in a single day that month, while the franchise as a whole attracted nearly five million players over the same 24-hour period. By late May, Fallout 76 had reached 20 million lifetime players, up from the 17 million Bethesda reported in December 2023.
