From day one, Fallout 76 has had no shortage of interesting Cryptids for players to encounter, and the roster has only grown with time. There’s the cute-but-deadly Mothman that has inspired a passionate cult (one that many players wish they could properly join), the hulking Grafton Monster, ferocious Wendigos, and the intimidating Sheepsquatch, to name a few. However, there’s one Cryptid Fallout 76 players have been begging to see since the game released over 8 years ago, and come Season 24, they’ll finally get their wish. Bigfoot is on the way, and Bethesda’s eye for detail will be making him just a tiny bit more special than his peers.
Fallout 76’s take on Bigfoot is a long time coming. The earliest references to Sasquatches come via the fourth issue of Backwoodsman, one of several collectible magazines in Fallout 76, as well as Mothman cult members acknowledging its existence via a note players can find at the Point Pleasant church. Then, Season 16 brought a bigfoot rug, further hinting at the creature’s debut, while the big Burning Springs update all-but-confirmed he was coming by adding various Bigfoot tracks to the open-world. 2025’s Letter from the Directors even included some sneaky nods to Bigfoot, and now that the creature’s arrival is imminent, it’s worth celebrating Bethesda for a unique interaction involving this beast and photography.
Fallout 76 Makes The Case For Fallout 5 to Fit in Unexpected Places on the Timeline
Bethesda Game Studios’ Fallout 76 could pave the way for Fallout 5 to be set in never-before-seen parts of Fallout’s modern timeline.
Unless someone has been living under a rock, they’ll be well aware of the endless real-world debate between skeptics and believers when it comes to Bigfoot. One side points to strange noises, existing photos, and the sheer amount of wilderness in the United States as proof that Bigfoot has to be out there somewhere. Doubters, on the other hand, are quick to write off odd sounds as other animals and point out how imagery is always blurry and out of focus, leaving plenty of room for it to be fake (not to mention all the well-documented fakeouts that back up this argument). Video games like Grand Theft Auto have poked fun at these Bigfoot debates several times, and it seems like Bethesda is doing the same with its take on the monster.

In addition to using Fallout 76’s ProtoSnap Deluxe Camera to snap pictures for daily quests, or set custom loading screens, players can roam Appalachia collecting photos of the wasteland’s many creatures. Normally, these photos come out crystal clear, but when it comes to Bigfoot, that’s not the case. Those that have encountered Bigfoot via Fallout 76’s test server have discovered that every time that they take a photo of Bigfoot, it comes out blurry. As shown in the image above from the Fallout Fandom wiki, it’s impossible to make out details like Bigfoot’s face, meaning he could just be any other monstrosity roaming throughout the wasteland. Whether this is just a clever joke from Bethesda, or an insinuation that Fallout’s version of Bigfoot has a special power to blur recordings, it serves as an awesome little touch that honors Bigfoot tradition and helps him stand out from all the other Cryptids.
This Fallout 76 Cryptid also disappears in a cloud of black smoke if not killed quickly. Perhaps this is another way for Bethesda to make all the Bigfoot mythology “make sense,” as the creature being able to teleport at will would explain how he’s gone undiscovered for so long.
Much like the search for the real Bigfoot has resulted in decades of sasquatch hunting groups and media that follows their searches, Vault dwellers seeking to find Bigfoot will have to put in some work. Bethesda’s version of Bigfoot has a chance to spawn as an Uninvited Guest at the end of the following Fallout 76 events (though there is also a chance that a different special creature could make an appearance instead, making Bigfoot even more rare):
- Beasts of Burden
- Campfire Tales
- Free Range
- Grahm’s Meat Cook
- Invaders from Beyond
- Moonshine Jamboree
- One Violent Night
- Primal Cuts
- Safe and Sound
- The Big Bloom
- The Mothman Equinox
Since Fallout 76’s Bigfoot will always spawn as a four-star enemy when it does appear, Cryptid hunters can expect a challenging fight where all the public event attendees need to work together and focus fire on the furry beast. He’ll likely drop some quality loot befitting of his star level, so players should put down their cameras when he shows up and make sure to land a few shots on him. After all, those pictures will be useless anyway, unless players want a blurry Fallout 76 loading screen for some reason.
