Fallout: New Vegas has many hidden places and secrets that players can uncover. Not only will various enemies stand in your way, but also other obstacles, such as Terminals. This guide will walk you through the process of Terminal hacking in New Vegas.
Although sometimes you will find unlocked Terminals, most of them will require hacking. It’s important to interact with them, as they can both tell them important information and unlock a door or safe. However, the hacking mini-game can seem quite complicated at first glance.
What are the Hardcore Mode Rewards in Fallout: New Vegas?
Hardcore Mode in Fallout: New Vegas is an incredibly difficult challenge. By completing the game in this mode, here’s what you can get.
How To Hack Terminals In Fallout: New Vegas
When you start hacking the Terminal in Fallout: New Vegas, you see a display with many different letters, numbers, and symbols. All you need to do successfully hack it is click on one of the words. But since you only have 4 attempts, this may be a pretty tough challenge.
If you choose the wrong word, which will most likely happen on the first try, you will see the number of letters that are correct. For example, “3/7 are correct” means that 3 letters out of 7 are correct. More importantly, they are in the same place as in the correct password.
So, you need to look for similar words, with the same number of the same letters in the same position.
Try starting with either the
longest words
or with
common endings
such as -ion or -ing.
Look For Special Symbols When Hacking
But, even knowing the algorithm for hacking the Terminal in Fallout: New Vegas, 4 attempts can still feel pretty restrictive. That is why you should look for {}, [], <>, and () with numbers and symbols inside. By clicking on them, players either restore their attempts or remove one of the incorrect words. However, you don’t know exactly what effect you’ll get, so manage your expectations. Instead, click on all those brackets after the first or second try. This way, you will narrow down the range of possible answers.
If you have one last attempt left, and a few words seem like they could be correct options, it is better not to continue. If you fail, the Terminal will be locked forever, and you will not be able to interact with it without the hacking skill. Instead, exit the Terminal and start hacking it from the beginning.
