Fallout Season 2 Debuts With 97% on Rotten Tomatoes

Fallout Season 2 Debuts With 97% on Rotten Tomatoes

Fallout Season 2 has debuted to a 97 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes among professional critics, improving on its already impressive Season 1 ratings. With the return of Lucy, Maximus, The Ghoul, and Dogmeat for a second season, Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout looks like it’s ready to deliver plenty of exciting action, drama, humor, and lore leading into 2026.

With its entire eight-episode first season having debuted on April 10, 2024, the Fallout TV show introduced some great characters to the franchise in an original story that featured plenty of nods and winks to the video games, from the familiar-looking vaults to terrifying irradiated mutants like radroaches, yao guai, and a massive gulper. Amazon reported the first season was watched more than 65 million times within its first 16 days of availability, with that number later eclipsing 100 million, putting it in the top three most-watched programs ever on the platform.

Fallout Season 2 Debuts to a Perfect 97% Critical Rating

Now, after a surprising release date change for the Fallout TV show, the first episode is launching at 9 p.m. EST on December 16, 2025. Reviews from professional critics who have already seen the full season are pouring in, with barely a single negative score registered on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer. With 38 reviews received so far, the overall score has since declined to 97 percent, though it had registered at a perfect 100 earlier in the day. With reviews noting a darker, grittier, and more violent adventure than what was provided in the first season, Fallout Season 2 is earning high praise from a number of sources in a lot of different categories, from its stunning visuals and attention to lore-based detail to its laugh-out-loud comedic moments. Based on these reviews, the second season will provide a deeper dive into the backstories of the main characters in a way that is only enhanced by its placement in the Fallout universe, balancing the protection of the IP’s continuity with creative takes that provide a unique adventure.

It’s hard to compete with a 97 percent, but the reviews for the second season, as of now, are only slightly higher than they were for the first season, which scored a consistent 93 percent on both the Tomatometer and the Popcornmeter, which gauges reactions from reviews submitted by viewers. With a drawn-out release schedule, it will be a while before fans of the show catch up to the point of what professional critics have already seen, and the Popcornmeter for season 2 is still showing a null set as Rotten Tomatoes prepares for viewers to get their first glimpse. However, the first season earned itself plenty of accolades, including Fallout winning Best Adaptation at the Game Awards 2024 and the Golden Joystick Awards 2024, Best Science Fiction Television Series and the Spotlight Award at the Saturn Awards 2025, and more than 60 other accredited awards and nominations.

Season 2 should also hold a special appeal for fans of one particular game in the franchise. The fates of the main characters at the end of Fallout Season 1 left them with an interesting predicament, as the season finale finally united the three main storylines against a common foe, with all signs for the future of the series pointing towards New Vegas. While much of the second season’s secrets are still under wraps, promotional material indicates that fans of Fallout: New Vegas should have a lot to look forward to as the season progresses.

How to prepare for the second season of Fallout Image via Amazon Prime Video

Unlike the first season, fans won’t be able to dive into every episode back-to-back on its premiere night on Amazon Prime Video. Instead, Fallout Season 2 release dates will be spread out, with episode 2 launching at 3 a.m. EST on December 24 and subsequent episodes following that schedule every Wednesday through February 4. While that change in the episode release policy from the first season means fans won’t get the same instant gratification as they did in 2024, it will stretch out the season and provide plenty of tension and excitement in between episodes. It will also provide some interesting competition with Netflix, as the second volume of Stranger Things Season 5 is set to launch on Christmas Day, and the series finale will be butting heads with Fallout Season 2’s third episode on New Year’s Eve.
