Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic game director Casey Hudson said that the upcoming title may not take as long to fully complete as fans think. Though the project is still deep in development, Hudson stated that Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will offer some replay value for fans to enjoy.
The upcoming title by Arcanaut Studios and LucasArts was first revealed during the 2025 edition of The Game Awards. However, some crucial details about Fate of the Old Republic, such as its main setting, remain a mystery. Though Fate of the Old Republic currently has no release date, Star Wars fans will have two confirmed 2026 releases to look forward to. Strategy game fans can check out Star Wars Zero Company later in 2026, while pod racing enthusiasts will have Star Wars: Galactic Racer to enjoy starting October 6.
Star Wars Zero Company Reveals New Story Details
Star Wars Zero Company has just received official age ratings in several countries, and new story details have emerged from them.
Casey Hudson: “Bigger Isn’t Necessarily Better”
Although some single-player games can take hundreds of hours to beat from start to finish, that will not be the case with Arcanaut Studios’ Star Wars project. According to Bloomberg, Hudson stated that “bigger isn’t necessarily better.” Hudson justified this decision by stating that most players just want to play something and finish it within a reasonable timeframe. Hudson said that, like Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect, Fate of the Old Republic will have some replay value due to storylines that can be discovered by taking different paths.
According to How Long To Beat, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic can take approximately 36.5 hours to go through, while Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 — The Sith Lords can last over 41 hours on average.
Hudson’s statement came just over a week after Arcanaut Studios revealed more of the developers working on Fate of the Old Republic. These developers include former KOTOR team members, such as Dan Fessenden, Ryan Hoyle, and Caroline Livingstone. Arcanaut Studios also brought in art director Pascale Blanche, who previously worked at companies such as Warner Bros. and Ubisoft, and former Bioware staffer Melanie Faulknor. Despite the fact that Arcanaut Studios was formed in 2025, Hudson wasted no time bringing in some notable veterans of the gaming industry.
Fate of the Old Republic Still Has A Long Way To Go
However, some doubts still linger about how long it will take before Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic reaches store shelves. Although the anticipated game will not be released in 2026, Hudson has gone on record to state that Fate of the Old Republic will be released before 2030. Hudson also assured fans that generative AI will not be used to develop Fate of the Old Republic, and called the technology “creatively soulless.” Though Arcanaut stated that Fate of the Old Republic is a spiritual successor to the Knights of the Old Republic games, it remains to be seen how the game will shape up as its development continues.

Given that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic duology is considered among the best Star Wars games of all time, Fate of the Old Republic has some big shoes to fill. But, with Hudson and other former KOTOR developers on board for the project, time will tell how Fate of the Old Republic will fare compared to its predecessors.
