Fighting Souls Director Apologizes For Launch Issues

In a letter to fans, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls game director, Kazuto Sekine, apologizes for the launch state of the PC version of the game, while also revealing upcoming balance changes and fixes. Despite a well-received beta period and plenty of pre-launch excitement for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, the release of the game was marred by technical and performance issues, especially for PC players.

The beta period seemed to alarm PC players as it was their first glimpse at potential issues, though many were hopeful that Arc System Works could address them in the Day 1 update for Marvel Tokon. With fans being unhappy with the beta and despite some fixes in the launch day update, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls continued to suffer from major issues on the PC version. Although Arc System Works has released numerous updates which have fixed many issues, some of those launch problems continue to persist today and has even prompted the game director to speak out.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Review

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls features exceptional core gameplay and is a blast in multiplayer, but the solo experience drops the ball.

What’s Coming Next for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

In a letter to the community one month after the launch of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, game director Kazuto Sekine praised the community for the positive reception and the creativity shown off with the game mechanics. However, Sekine also acknowledged the rough shape of Marvel Tokon‘s launch on PC, apologizing for the frustrations it caused and admitting that progress continues to be made by the development team in fixing things.

Sekine also revealed some of the major items that Arc System Works has been developing to address some of the remaining issues. First up is the input response, which some fans have called sluggish or, at times, unresponsive. Sekine called for more feedback on the subject, while also confirming the team is making adjustments to the timing windows.

On the topic of tagging and assists, the original vision of the mechanic was to allow players to call a lot and tag in between them to “recreate the chaotic feel of battle found in the final pages of comics.” However, assist frequency has exceeded the team’s initial expectations thanks to player optimization, pushing ArcSys to reduce player input downtime, while improving overall visibility for those chaotic moments. The team is also considering increasing the cooldown time for certain Assists and Switches which the studio feels would benefit rushdown and neutral play.

Finally, Sekine took time to discuss character balance. While fixing the PC issues remains the team’s highest priority, he admitted that they’ve received tons of feedback regarding the current roster of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Shockingly, the win rates for all characters are pretty stable, ranging between 48% and 52%. However, Sekine believes Marvel Tokon is still in the discovery phase, with players experimenting with new techniques and certain metas. As such, he believes it’s too early to be making changes and, with the previously mentioned tag and assist modifications, characters could continue to see adjustments anyway.

Unfortunately, Sekine didn’t comment on future content, including DLC characters like Phoenix Cyclops. Even as fans continue to wait for news, leakers have attempted to fill in the gaps as dataminers have revealed a host of potential characters for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls and new mechanics like a Battle Pass. For now, players will need to continue to wait until official word comes from Arc System Works or Sony.
