Arc System Works finally confirms the launch date for the first DLC character coming to Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls while also revealing new details about how Phoenix Cyclops will ultimately play. After two months of being available, Arc System Works is finally ready to talk about what Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls can expect when Phoenix Cyclops finally launches in November.
It’s been an interesting launch window for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls as the game experienced plenty of pre-launch excitement from fans. While the PlayStation 5 version has been pretty stable, major issues arose with the PC port of the game, something which beta players got a glimpse of. While Arc System Works released numerous updates to fix the performance and technical problems, fans quickly grew unhappy and led a review bombing campaign against Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Game director Kazuto Sekine even came out last month to apologize for the issues, reaffirming that Arc System Works remains hard at work to fix the problems. In the meantime, the post-launch plans continue to roll forward, with the first DLC character now on the horizon.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Phoenix Cyclops Release Date
After Phoenix Cyclops was revealed for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls all the way back in July at San Diego Comic-Con, there hasn’t been much in the way of news. Thankfully, months later, that has finally changed as Arc System Works revealed a new gameplay trailer showcasing all the things that Phoenix Cyclops can do, including confirming that the first DLC will be available for purchase of unlock on November 2. Fans attending EVO France from October 9–11 will also have an opportunity to check the character out early.

In terms of gameplay, Arc System Works describes Phoenix Cyclops as an all-rounder who is comfortable at range or up close. Naturally, he has his optic blasts, but also being empowered by the Phoenix Force, Cyclops is able to unleash fire-based attacks to control the screen as well. Using Optic Blasts will accumulate a new resource called Solar Shards and once 4 have been collected, players can transform Cyclops into his Dark Phoenix form. In this form, Cyclops gains a significant but temporary power boost, though there is a risk/reward element here as it also depletes his health. Players will need to manage this mechanic in order to get the best out of this character.
For those who may not love Scott’s new Phoenix-enhanced look and would rather rock something a bit more old school, Arc System Works has good news. Alongside the Phoenix Cyclops reveal, the official social media account also confirmed that the iconic X-Men leader is getting a classic costume similar to what ArcSys put together for Iron Man and Captain America in Marvel Tokon. As expected, the Classic and Legacy costumes feature the iconic blue and yellow colors in a suit that looks ripped straight from the Jim Lee era. ArcSys confirmed that even though it purposely chose an uncommon version of a beloved character, the team also wanted to ensure a classic costume was available as well.

Unfortunately, Arc System Works didn’t tease the next DLC character, something the company became known for with its previous Marvel Tokon trailers. So, while there are no official teases, dataminers may have revealed at least some of the studio’s plans early. Thanks to digging through the game’s code, dataminers came across a variety of character names that are not yet in the game, like Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Wasp, Gambit, and more. Not only that, the leaked Marvel Tokon DLC also included mentions of a Battle Pass, though nothing official has been mentioned or teased as yet. It’s also worth noting that something similar happened to Guilty Gear Strive, though the datamined characters, such as Jam Kuradoberi, didn’t actually launch until 5 years later, so for now, fans should take the news with a grain of salt.
