Final Fantasy 14 Director Teases More Character Customization Updates

Final Fantasy 14 Director Teases More Character Customization Updates

Final Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida stated during a recent discussion that more character customization options are being considered by the development team, but did not elaborate further on what those changes are. Yoshida also said that some player-requested features, such as updating Explorer Mode, have been noted down for future Final Fantasy 14 updates.

Yoshida’s comments came days after Final Fantasy 14 launched Patch 7.4, Into the Mist, on December 16. The 7.4 content update was headlined by new main scenario quests that explored more of the Ninth Shard, the finale of the fan-favorite Arcadion raid series, and some Job balance changes that saw the Gunbreaker and the Red Mage receive some surprising adjustments. However, Final Fantasy 14‘s 7.4 update was marred by ongoing server issues, which saw some players in North America disconnect from the game at random intervals. Although Final Fantasy 14 released a Christmas Day patch to address some bugs, the server problems affecting the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers remained a persistent issue.

Final Fantasy 14 Considering More Character Customization Options

During the 48th Korean Live Letter broadcast, Yoshida answered some questions about the global and Korean versions of Final Fantasy 14. One question asked if FF14 would add more character customization options in future updates, to which Yoshida responded that the foundation for more options has been put in place. Additionally, Yoshida said that changes to the game’s Explorer Mode to include Alliance Raid instances are also being considered by the dev team, along with a way to make past relic weapons purchasable from a vendor as a way to free up players’ inventory space. Yoshida remarked that the Korean version of Final Fantasy 14 will be on parity with the global and Chinese game clients in time for Patch 7.5, which is due out sometime in spring 2026. Patch 7.5 will also be when Final Fantasy 14‘s next Ultimate raid and other features, including the Beastmaster Limited Job, become available for players to enjoy.

The Korean Live Letter summary came just after Yoshida took questions from Final Fantasy 14 players on the Pandaemonium server in Japan. During the Q&A session, Yoshida remarked that character skin tones and colors would be among the options the development team would look into adjusting. Additionally, Yoshida seemingly confirmed that Final Fantasy 14 would receive a Switch 2 port in the future. Given that Creative Studio 3 has already ported Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles to the Switch 2, and that Final Fantasy 14 can work on a Steam Deck with some adjustments, a port of FF14 to Nintendo’s new console seems like a foregone conclusion. However, Yoshida said that players should keep an eye on the upcoming FanFest conventions for further information. Final Fantasy 14‘s North American FanFest will be held April 24 and 25, 2026, at the Anaheim Convention Center in California.

Final Fantasy 14 Has Plenty of Content Planned for Early 2026

Until January 15, Final Fantasy 14 players level 15 and up can participate in the annual Heavensturn event in Limsa Lominsa. Based on the real-world Lunar New Year event, Heavensturn includes some Year of the Horse thematic rewards for players to claim, including the Uma-no-Unicolt minion and Gilded Screen housing item. Additionally, Final Fantasy 14 players can purchase past Heavensturn items at a discount on the Online Store until January 8.

Additionally, the name and release window of Final Fantasy 14‘s next expansion should be revealed during the upcoming FanFest. Yoshida previously stated that his plans for Final Fantasy 14‘s immediate future could constitute a ‘second rebirth’ of the game, though further details about Yoshida’s plans remain elusive. Although Dawntrail still has one more major patch to go, time will tell what lies ahead for Final Fantasy 14 players throughout 2026.
