Just hours before the Anaheim FanFest event, Final Fantasy 14 revealed the preliminary patch notes for its 7.5 content update. The latest Final Fantasy 14 patch notes contained some of the new additions coming on April 28, including where the update’s main story quests will begin.
Final Fantasy 14’s Patch 7.5, Trail to the Heavens, is the last major content update for Dawntrail. The 7.5 update is split into multiple parts, with those pieces arriving between June and September. Along with additional quests for players to undertake, Trail to the Heavens will include some changes to the game’s glamour and dye systems. Armor and accessories obtained from most of the game’s dungeons can now be turned into outfit glamours, and most dyes have been consolidated into one of three new dyes.
Final Fantasy 9 Fan Builds Alexandria in Pokopia
A creative Final Fantasy 9 fan re-imagines the iconic city of Alexandria within Pokopia, creating several recognizable locations from the RPG.
FF14’s Trail to the Heavens Has More Features Than A Single Patch Can Hold
However, players looking to jump straight into everything that Final Fantasy 14’s 7.5 update has to offer now have some directions to consider. Square Enix stated that, once Patch 7.5 goes live on Tuesday, April 28, players can start the first half of Trail to the Heavens’ main story by accepting the quest “In Fate’s Footsteps” from Krile in Solution Nine. There will be five quests to complete in this opening half of Patch 7.5’s main story. The story will eventually take players back to the frozen wastes of Garlemald, where The Clyteum dungeon is located. Players will also face a void-based entity called Enuo, a superboss that first appeared in Final Fantasy 5 Advance, in The Unmaking trial battle. Given that FF14 Patch 7.5 will bridge the gap between Dawntrail and the game’s next expansion, players looking for clues as to where the story will go should pay attention to the patch’s dialogue.
Alongside the latest main story quests, Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.5 will add the final segment of the Echoes of Vana’diel alliance raid series, titled Windurst, The Third Walk. The upcoming alliance raid’s name was taken directly from Final Fantasy 11. Consequently, the first boss of the Windurst alliance raid was revealed to be Shantotto, an iconic and powerful Black Mage from FF11. However, the rest of the challenges that await in FF14‘s new alliance raid will not be revealed until patch day, so players must wait to discover what lies ahead.
Final Fantasy 14 Still Has Some Key Features In the Pipeline
Although Final Fantasy 14’s 7.5 update is a sizable patch, there are still some additional features that will be gradually released. Final Fantasy 14’s second Limited Job, the Beastmaster, will arrive at a later date. During the 92nd episode of Letter from the Producer Live, FF14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida stated that a broadcast dedicated to Beastmaster is being considered. Yoshida added that the Beastmaster’s lead content designer, Masaki “Mr. Ozma” Nakagawa, would be brought in to discuss everything about the upcoming Limited Job.

An Ultimate Raid challenge against Final Fantasy 6‘s unforgettable antagonist, Kefka Palazzo, will also arrive at a later date. With Final Fantasy 14’s Anaheim FanFest and a collaboration with Jollibee now underway, a lot is riding on the future of Square Enix’s critically acclaimed MMORPG. Given how divisive Dawntrail has been, time will tell what Final Fantasy 14 fans will make of Patch 7.5 and its subsequent updates.
