Final Fantasy 7 Revelation game director Naoki Hamaguchi said that the infamous slap fight between Tifa and Scarlet is coming back as a mini-game in the upcoming title. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will be the decisive finale of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, with plenty of callbacks to the original Final Fantasy 7 that longtime fans may recognize.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation was revealed during the final segment of Summer Games Fest, as fans were given a tease of the game’s story and gameplay elements. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches next spring on all current-gen platforms, meaning it will not have timed PlayStation exclusivity like its predecessors. Despite the deviations between the original game and the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, Square Enix has ensured some elements from the PS1 classic were carried over into Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth in some capacity.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is Making a Huge Change to the Combat System
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation confirms that a major change to the game’s battle system is one that longtime Final Fantasy fans may enjoy.
The Infamous Slap Fight Will Return in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation
Along with vast open world environments for players to comb through, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will offer some highly-requested mini-games as part of the story. Hamaguchi said in an interview with Denfamico (translated by Aitaikimochi on Twitter) that the slap fight between Tifa and Scarlet would return as one of Revelation‘s mini-games during the story. In the original Final Fantasy 7, the slap fight occurred after Tifa and Barret were captured by Shinra forces and sentenced to public execution in Junon. However, the emergence of the Sapphire Weapon presented Tifa and Barret with a chance to escape. Tifa ran onto the barrel of the Mako Cannon and engaged Scarlet in a slap fight. The mini-game itself was a quick-time event that required players to press a specific button when a prompt appeared on the screen. Regardless of the fight’s outcome, Tifa then escaped onto the Highwind.

Hamaguchi also provided some insight into the features players can expect in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Hamaguchi said that the number of mini-games in Revelation would not be decreased from Rebirth, but the difficulty of some activities will be toned down following player feedback. Given that Hamaguchi previously expressed regrets about the difficulty curve behind some of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth‘s trophies and achievements, it is possible that players will have a less tedious time in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.
However, the slap fight is not the only activity that Final Fantasy 7 fans can enjoy in Revelation. In a January 2026 interview, Hamaguchi confirmed that Queen’s Blood would be back in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. The popular card game from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be ‘powered-up’ for Revelation, though it is unclear what changes Square Enix has in store for Queen’s Blood. WIth Tokyo Game Show and Gamescom right around the corner, it remains to be seen when the developers will share more information with fans.

Given that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will see players unlock the Highwind right from the start, it is unclear where the story of the upcoming title will begin in relation to the original FF7. Though Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will still have some changes for fans to consider, the fact that the slap fight between Tifa and Scarlet will return should give longtime fans an idea of what to expect.
