Final Fantasy 7 Revelation game director Naoki Hamaguchi said that the upcoming title will continue the trend of including more spin-off and compilation characters within the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is the highly-anticipated climax of the FF7 Remake saga, releasing next spring on all current-gen platforms simultaneously.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will pick up immediately following the events of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, as the world will be changed by the looming presence of Meteor. To combat multiple threats to the planet, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation‘s ensemble cast will take to the skies aboard the iconic airship called the Highwind. Along with the return of popular features such as Queen’s Blood, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will introduce Job-based FITS that will grant Cloud, Tifa, and the rest of the main cast some new options to take into battle.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Will Continue Adding Spin-Off Character Cameos

Alongside the game’s new features, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will continue tying the Final Fantasy 7 Compilation together within the FF7 Remake series. Hamaguchi stated in an IGN interview conducted at Gamescom that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will feature additional characters from Final Fantasy 7 spin-off games. However, Hamaguchi did not state which characters would appear in the upcoming title due to spoilers, as he wanted some characters to remain a surprise. Spin-offs such as Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core have had characters appear in Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth so far, including Nero the Sable and Cissnei.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will also see the addition of Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine as playable characters that bring their own fighting styles to the battlefield. Along with the ability to transform into the Galian Beast, Vincent can use his firearms to take down powerful foes from afar. Hamaguchi stated that the backstory of characters such as Vincent would be explored throughout Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Given that Vincent was the main character of Dirge of Cerberus, time will tell what details Hamaguchi and the FF7 Revelation development team will unveil closer to the game’s launch.

During the 2026 edition of Gamescom Opening Night Live, Hamaguchi shared a new trailer that showed the powerful Weapon bosses players will face throughout Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. The trailer confirmed that Ruby, Emerald, and Ultima Weapon will each be fought in some capacity, with Emerald Weapon in particular being encountered underwater. However, the trailer did not show any actual gameplay of Cloud and the main cast fighting each of the iconic Weapons, though the appearance of the Weapons will play a pivotal role in the game’s main story. It is currently unclear how and when players will encounter the Weapons in FF7 Revelation.

Fans will not have to wait long for more news about Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Square Enix and Sony confirmed that FF7 Revelation will be extensibly featured during the closing segment of the September 3 State of Play broadcast. Additionally, Hamaguchi will attend PAX West in Seattle for an official Final Fantasy 7 Revelation panel on Saturday, September 5, at 3:00 PM Pacific.
