The first extended look at gameplay for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2‘s version of Metal Gear Solid 4 has just been revealed. This lengthy gameplay stream shows off around an hour of Metal Gear Solid 4 gameplay, giving fans their first proper look at this souped-up version’s new and improved features.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is currently set for an August 27, 2026 release on PC, Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. While the first volume of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection brought together improved versions of Metal Gear 1 and 2 and Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3, the second volume is bringing Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker to the table. The addition of Metal Gear Solid 4 is particularly noteworthy as the game can currently only be played (legally) by those who own both a PlayStation 3 and an original physical copy of MGS4.

A few days ago, YouTube channel WasyaganaTV — a channel formed by writer Mafia Kajita and voice actor Yuichi Nakamura — hosted an hour-long livestream focused solely on revealing gameplay for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2‘s Metal Gear Solid 4. The stream kicked off right at the start of Metal Gear Solid 4‘s first act, during the game’s very first chapter, ‘Ground Zero,’ and ran right up until Meryl’s introductory cutscene.

There are a few things fans of the original Metal Gear Solid 4 will notice very quickly when watching the gameplay stream. Probably the most immediately noticeable difference between the original MGS4 and this new Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 version is that the game seems to be running at a smooth 60 FPS. The PS3 version of Metal Gear Solid 4 was locked to 30 FPS.

Another notable difference is that loading times appear to be much faster in this new version, which is particularly noticeable when Snake is moving between areas. A more subtle detail that eagle-eyed fans might notice is that MGS4‘s product placement seems to be intact, with Apple’s iPod showing up in this gameplay reveal.

Konami hasn’t officially revealed gameplay for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2‘s version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, but it has confirmed that it’ll be a port of the HD Collection version of Peace Walker, which originally released in 2011 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. While Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker are the main attractions of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, this upcoming compilation will also include Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, the series’ first handheld entry. Metal Gear: Ghost Babel originally launched for the Game Boy Color back in 2000, and though it initially began life as a portable version of the first Metal Gear Solid, the final product would see players control Snake in an alternate timeline, a few years after the events of the original Metal Gear.
