New alleged GPU specifications for the PS6 and Xbox Project Helix have leaked online, pointing to a potentially significant compute-performance gap between Sony and Microsoft’s next consoles. Although no official specs have been released yet, Microsoft has confirmed the existence of Project Helix, while Sony has acknowledged that it is developing its next-gen console but has yet to formally unveil the PS6.

Hardware leaker KeplerL2 has now claimed that the PS6 GPU will deliver 40 TFLOPS of compute performance, while Xbox Helix will reach 56 TFLOPS. KeplerL2 made the claim during a NeoGAF discussion about earlier next-generation performance estimates and later said the chips for both consoles have already taped out, meaning their silicon designs have been finalized for manufacturing submission. Those figures would give Helix substantially more theoretical floating-point throughput on paper, though that does not mean Microsoft’s next console will necessarily deliver an equivalent advantage in actual games. Sony, Microsoft, and AMD have not confirmed either specification, so for now the 40 and 56 TFLOPS figures should still be treated as a rumor.
