Forever Class Change is Basically a Death Sentence

Forever Class Change is Basically a Death Sentence

World of Warcraft: Forever made significant changes to one class, and it will play very poorly unless some of these are reverted. World of Warcraft: Forever is a very interesting concept in the gaming landscape because it’s very much live-service DNA from the modern version of the game, combined with vanilla and Classic WoW‘s retro feel and graphics, but with horizontal growth in mind. This allows fans to choose whether they want modern or vanilla character models, makes sure that the level cap is never increased beyond 60, and provides opportunities to start a new timeline.

Now that World of Warcraft may get console ports, the fact that WoW: Forever added gamepad support feels like the missing link that makes the new rumors more plausible. With World of Warcraft: Forever, Blizzard also wants to explore new race and class combinations, as well as new ways to balance each class after learning through retail updates and abilities. In theory, this is a very good thing for the game, and it makes it recognizably vanilla, but still has a flair of modern WoW. However, the new Warrior is very much at risk of being bad.

World of Warcraft: Best Races For Warriors

World of Warcraft is filled with options for races to play as, and some of them are particularly great for building warrior characters.

World of Warcraft: Forever’s Worst Class is Already Official

World of Warcraft: Forever‘s Warrior class has a high risk of being virtually unplayable for some players, and that’s because of its rage generation, lack of free-to-cast abilities, and a long cooldown on Recklessness. WoW content creator Ahlaundoh shared a video about the problems the Warrior class faces in Forever, as this iteration of the Warrior lacks the rage normalization that came to retail years after launch, and it also lacks abilities to use as ways to deal damage at no cost. Rage generation is bad for Arms and Fury Warriors, especially, as they don’t have tools to reliably generate huge chunks of the resource Warriors use to cast abilities, mainly using auto attacks and some passives to achieve that. This leaves big-spender abilities as occasional casts and gives the Warrior no free-to-cast tools to generate rage and use in downtime after clicking spender abilities. On top of that, Recklessness, which partly fixes this issue at the cost of taking more damage for a short duration, is on a 30-minute cooldown. While this is a problem in World of Warcraft: Forever‘s official beta, there is no indication at the moment that it will be fixed before launch.

Though World of Warcraft: Forever adds a new Druid form, various powerful boons, and even unique abilities to gear, there is currently no confirmation that any piece of endgame gear will fix the Warrior’s problems. Protection Warrior doesn’t necessarily have great rage generation, but it does have basically free Shield Block due to its 10 rage cost and refunding five rage when blocking up to two hits, as well as the Shield Specialization and Master of Defense talents to gain rage passively. On the other hand, Fury Warrior mainly has increased attack speed to generate rage faster, but Arms is left with almost nothing. These two specs may be close to unplayable in the endgame unless Blizzard makes some changes, as highlighted by Ahlaundoh’s video.

Blizzard does typically make adjustments to World of Warcraft classes before release, and the beta should help. Still, there is no word on Warriors at the moment, and the class may need more than just a few tweaks to be truly fun. A much shorter cooldown on Recklessness would help, for starters, and Ahlaundoh’s comment section agrees, saying the video isn’t long enough at 22 minutes to cast Recklessness twice.

Aside from class balance, the game has unfortunately been hit by a few controversies already. There is a World of Warcraft: Forever add-on to mute Asmongold and Olympus guilds, which the Twitch streamer called “a hate crime or racism.” A developer quit social media after threats following the name ban controversy, too. Still, there is hope that the game will turn out great because it has solid foundations, but for class balance, fans will have to wait and see.
