Synduality: Echo of Ada was supposed to be Bandai Namco’s big push at a new multimedia IP: a large-scale online PvPvE extraction-driven open-world mecha game sitting at the center of a sci-fi franchise spanning anime and other mediums. With a maximum concurrent player count that barely surpassed 3,000 at its peak on Steam, the 2025 release hasn’t turned out quite how the company had hoped. While Bandai Namco has continued to support the game with regular updates since launch, the publisher announced this week that its pulling the plug on online servers in 2027, just two years after launch.
While this sounds like it would be disappointing for the limited group of fans still playing the game, the closure of online servers won’t be the complete end of Synduality. As reported by Automaton Media, in its place, the company has promised to release an offline PvE mode to allow players to continue exploring the game’s world and battling against CPU opponents. The core gameplay loop remains the same—use your mecha to search for supplies and fight mutated creatures and rival salvagers—and some players have already expressed relief about being able to leave PvP behind. In its absence, they can just focus on exploring the world and enjoying the story.
One core mechanic of the game is that death in the open world leads you to lose all of your materials and the mecha you were using, imposing penalties on players who take big risks and leading to a lot of misery if you get ambushed by a human opponent. In response to the closure notice on social media, one player pointed out that you could spend hours collecting materials and items only to be surprise-attacked by another player and lose everything, noting, “it takes a lot of time to get back the money and equipment you lose when you are killed.”
The promise of an offline version focused on fighting large enemies without needing to worry about OP human opponents is something many fans had been hoping for. An offline version in this vein might even win Synduality: Echo of Ada some new fans. The game will continue regular online operations until May 2027 before transferring to its new offline version, and all digital currency will be removed from sale starting December 17 of this year.
