Former NFL Coach Shares Surprisingly Complex Minecraft City Build

Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin surprised viewers by posting a video of the Minecraft city build that he made alongside his family, which included several high-rise buildings and urban homes. Minecraft has been on the market for nearly two decades and millions of fans have used it to show off their creative side.

It’s no secret that Minecraft is one of the most successful games of all time. The success of Mojang’s popular sandbox title is due to the game’s wide availability on every current-gen platform and the various ways that players can go about shaping the game’s world to their liking. Though deep base-building games offer several ways for players to freely express themselves, Minecraft‘s global appeal has also led to various spin-offs across different genres, such as the action title Minecraft Dungeons 2.

Mike Tomlin’s Minecraft City is a Sight to Behold

Just as other Minecraft fans have shared impressive builds across the years, the former Pittsburgh head coach shared his creation in the game. In a viral YouTube video, Tomlin gave viewers a look at the Minecraft city he made over 12 years alongside his family. Tomlin said that he was always into architecture and urban planning, though he admitted that his gaming prowess was very limited. However, that has not stopped the former coach and his family from crafting several high-rise buildings and urbanized homes in Minecraft‘s Creative Mode. Tomlin said that each of his kids took part in building up the city and that he had “different levels of fixation” with the project. He stated that building up the virtual city was “therapeutic” to him and was a way to bond with his children as they grew up.

After taking over for Bill Cowher in 2007, Tomlin amassed a career head coaching record of 201-126-2 during his time leading the Steelers. His tenure also included a victory in Super Bowl 43, where Pittsburgh defeated the Arizona Cardinals in a close contest by the score of 27-23. Despite winning over 61% of his games as an NFL head coach, Tomlin resigned from his post following the 2025 NFL season. Since then, the former coach went on to join NBC’s Football Night in America as an analyst. As for the Steelers, the team’s defense remains one of the top units in the NFL, a stat that is reflected in Madden NFL 27‘s team rankings.

Tomlin is not the only former NFL coach to get into gaming. Earlier in 2026, former coach and analyst Jon Gruden shared a video of collectible cards on social media, including some Pokemon cards featuring critters from the series’ long history. Gruden’s video saw him struggle to pronounce some Pokemon names, such as Escavalier, Rookiedee, and Amoongus. During his time in the NFL, Gruden coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Las Vegas Raiders, including a win in Super Bowl 37.
