Although Kamiya has not been involved in the Resident Evil series in over two decades, it’s clear how strongly he feels about this particular issue. Even though Kamiya has been notoriously outspoken online in the past, his feelings about these leaks make a lot of sense. As he points out in his post, Resident Evil 2 was leaked before its 1998 release, and with the growth of leak culture on the internet in the decades since, this issue has only gotten worse. Leaks for many games feel unavoidable nowadays, and gamers almost have to take matters into their own hands by deliberately avoiding spoilers wherever possible to keep the authentic experience of a first-time playthrough intact.

His new studio is working with Capcom once again, this time on the long-awaited Okami sequel, which was revealed at The Game Awards 2024. Earlier this month, Capcom’s plans for Resident Evil games over the next three years were seemingly leaked, indicating a few exciting remakes could be on the way. Those plans also included a potential Resident Evil 10 release for 2029, which would be a very quick turnaround given the five years between RE Village and Requiem.
