Fortnite Players Are Boycotting Recent V-Bucks Price Increase

Fortnite players have requested that the whole community come together by not making any digital purchases and logging off on launch day. Except for Save the World, all Fortnite game modes are free-to-play, so gamers can access them without having to spend any money. However, if they want to support the developers, they can buy the Fortnite Crew, digital packs, or V-Bucks (in-game currency), which can be used to obtain cosmetics and passes.

This week, Epic Games announced that it would be making significant changes to V-Bucks. While most V-Buck packs will cost the same, they will grant players less in-game currency. This is essentially a more subtle way to increase prices. However, the Fortnite community saw through Epic’s tactics, and fans weren’t afraid to raise their voices and speak their minds on the matter. Players immediately got to work, running calculations and neatly presenting the math to the entire community, so it became clear how much shrinkflation would affect fans in the long run.

Fortnite is getting a skin inspired by the upcoming open-world action-adventure game Crimson Desert, and fans have just received their first look.

Fortnite Players Attempt to Boycott Epic Games

Several petitions are going around the community in hopes of getting Epic Games’s attention in order to prevent the Fortnite V-Buck price changes from going live. Reddit user Awesomedogman3 made a post asking players to halt all Fortnite purchases in order to boycott Epic Games until it agrees to their terms. They even made a petition with the slow “You cut our V-Bucks? We cut your funding.” The petition got over 1,200 signatures, and their post received about 3,000 upvotes. Twitter user littlemankay asked players to hold off on playing the new season to lower the player counter. Their post got 13,000 likes and over 2,400 reposts, making it clear how displeased the general community is with these changes.

Epic Games is now preparing for the end of the Chapter 7 Season 1 storyline and setting up the premise for the upcoming Fortnite season, which starts on March 19, the day that the V-Buck price changes will come into effect. Players know that the clock is ticking, so they’re doing everything they can to change Epic’s mind. Launch day is one of the biggest days of each season, as many fans tend to return to the game to check out the new Battle Pass, any map or weapon changes, and it also means that it’s when most players purchase the pass or the Fortnite Crew Pack. Of course, holding off on getting the pass would lead to a disastrous season launch, but if gamers are willing to return the following day, then Epic won’t really suffer much from the boycott. The best way to do it would most likely be to stop all in-game purchases, as Awesomedogman3 suggested.

Not all Fortnite changes are bad, however, as Save the World will soon be free to play in Fortnite. Players have been requesting this change for years now, and Epic is finally making the mode accessible to everyone. Non-Founders and those who don’t get any of the Save the World Packs will most likely not be able to make any V-Bucks by playing STW, but not much information has been shared about this in particular. For now, all that players know is that they will be able to try Save the World on April 19.

Players can start their Save the World journey on the right foot by participating in the STW community goal event and registering for free rewards on the official website. Once the goal event reaches a million registered players, everyone who signed up will receive the Snowstrike hero for free in Save the World. Thankfully, even though most cosmetics and items in Fortnite must be purchased, there are still plenty of quests, challenges, and events that make it possible for players to earn freebies.
