Fortnite Reveals Crimson Desert Skin for the Game

The first official image of Fortnite‘s upcoming Crimson Desert crossover skin has just been revealed. This Fortnite x Crimson Desert crossover was first teased back in January, where it was announced that those who purchased Crimson Desert via the Epic Games Store would receive a free Fortnite skin inspired by the open-world action-adventure game’s protagonist, Kliff.

Originally revealed at the 2020 Game Awards, Crimson Desert is a single-player successor to developer Pearl Abyss’ MMO, Black Desert Online. Over the last five years or so, Crimson Desert has continued to gradually gain traction with audiences due to its incredible ambition. Each and every gameplay trailer Crimson Desert has released over the years has showcased an array of varied, impressive mechanics that have inadvertently put some lofty expectations on the final release, which is now less than a week away.

First Images of Fortnite’s Crimson Desert Skin Revealed

On March 12, the Epic Games Store social media accounts posted the first official image of the upcoming Fortnite Crimson Desert skin. Based on the official image, it appears the crossover skin will be based on Kliff’s default appearance that’s been present throughout all of Crimson Desert‘s pre-release marketing. Fortnite‘s Kliff skin will appear in the game on Crimson Desert‘s March 19 launch date at 6pm ET, and will be available to anyone who pre-purchased Crimson Desert via the Epic Games Store.

Those who purchase Crimson Desert on the Epic Games Store after its March 19 launch will also be granted the Kliff skin, with the offer running for “as long as Crimson Desert is available for sale on the Epic Games Store.” If players link their Epic account across multiple devices, they’ll be able to use the Kliff skin across platforms. Though Fortnite‘s Crimson Desert crossover skin is only currently available with this offer, Epic Games has stated that the skin may be purchasable in the Fortnite Shop at a later date.

Along with being the poster child of Crimson Desert, Kliff will act as the open-world game’s first protagonist. The central plot of Crimson Desert revolves around Kliff trying to reunite the scattered members of his Greymanes clan, with the heroic faction suffering major losses at the start of the game at the hands of the primary antagonist, Myurdin, the leader of the rival Black Bears clan.

For those unaware, Crimson Desert will feature three playable protagonists: Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka. Unlike other open-world action-adventure games, these three protagonists are fixed and can only be lightly customized via the player’s choice of gear and by choosing specific hairstyles, tattoos, and armor dyes. It’s currently unclear if Fortnite‘s Kliff skin will come with any alternate styles based on the customization options available in Crimson Desert.

Fortnite’s Crimson Desert Crossover Arrives at a Tumultuous Time

This Crimson Desert crossover will arrive alongside the beginning of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2. Originally intended to start in early March, Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 was delayed two weeks due to a recent uptick in severe technical issues plaguing the battle royale.

This crossover is also coming soon after one of the most controversial announcements in Fortnite history. On March 10, Epic Games confirmed that it was making major changes to Fortnite‘s V-Buck system. Essentially, users are getting less V-Bucks for their real-world money, with $8.99 now netting them just 800 V-Bucks as opposed to the previous 1,000. While the price of the Battle Pass has also been reduced to 800 V-Bucks from 1,000, players will now only be able to claim 800 V-Bucks from it, thus giving them less currency to spend elsewhere.
