Highlights
- Fallout is collaborating with Fortnite in the Wrecked season, though there was a big missed opportunity for a Mad Max crossover to take place alongside it.
- With Fortnite focusing on post-apocalyptic themes for the next several weeks, and scrap-covered vehicles in the Wrecked season, everything aligns perfectly with Mad Max.
- Epic Games should consider a future Mad Max crossover, and with one previously rumored, hopefully it still happens.
Fortnite recently extended its vast range of links to other franchises with a collaboration tied to the Fallout IP, introducing iconic things like Power Armor and Nuka Cola to the battle royale title. This crossover with Fallout comes in the wake of the franchise’s successful live-action TV show, with the post-apocalyptic themes of Fallout also being perfect for Fortnite‘s recent Wrecked season.
While many players have been enjoying this crossover between Fortnite and Fallout, fans were also looking forward to a heavily rumored Mad Max crossover that has now seemingly fallen to the wayside. The introduction of the Fallout crossover may have played a large role in the absence of any Mad Max content, yet the themes of the Wrecked chapter and the increased focus on brutal high-octane vehicles would have been a perfect match for a Mad Max event. With huge amounts of hype being stirred up around Mad Max thanks to the recent release of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Epic Games should ensure that a Mad Max crossover still happens at some point in the near future.

A Fortnite and Mad Max Crossover is Too Good to Pass Up
Fortnite‘s recent Wrecked event launched on May 24, marking the start of the game’s third season of its fifth chapter. Wrecked has brought about some intense changes for the battle royale, adding a harsh desert biome to the game’s map, dubbed the Wasteland. The Wasteland is packed with brand-new POIs that are themed around the season’s post-apocalyptic focus, with Wrecked also paying a lot of attention to the vehicles of Fortnite.
Wrecked revived vehicle mods as a core mechanic of Fortnite, allowing players to customize beefier vehicles like SUVs in a much wider variety of ways. Of course, vehicles are an integral part of the Mad Max franchise, with many fans drawing comparisons between Wrecked and Mad Max without a crossover even being present. Land vehicles are not really featured at all in Fallout, and while the desert Wasteland location of the season does share similarities with the Bethesda franchise, it seems that Wrecked is much more in line with Mad Max overall.
The Vehicles of Mad Max Should Be the Focus of a Future Fortnite Crossover
Rumors around a Mad Max collaboration with Fortnite have been circulating for some time, with many believing that the release of Furiosa on May 24 would be the perfect launching point for this crossover. Incidentally, May 24 was also the exact date that Wrecked launched, yet fans were surprised to see a collaborative focus be placed on Fallout instead of Mad Max. While licensing issues could have been the reason behind the lack of Mad Max content, it seems that Fallout has taken the spot of Wrecked’s major collaboration. However, this does not mean that Mad Max cannot appear in future events.
Mad Max is defined by its iconic vehicles, with legions of manic armies like the War Boys actually worshiping cars on a religious level. These cars, heavily adapted for desert terrain, are typified as grungy and spliced together, defining the desertpunk aesthetic that would be perfect for Fortnite‘s Wrecked season. A full Mad Max collaboration with Fortnite could lean into new vehicles in a more extreme way, offering huge trucks and armored cars with even more impressive ranges of weaponry.
With how important vehicles are shaping up to be for Fortnite‘s future, a Mad Max collaboration with a focus on cars could have some serious long-term benefits for the title. Although the recent Fallout crossover may have taken the place of any Mad Max content, the stage is still set for a large-scale crossover with the latter further down the line.
