Forza Horizon 6 Officially Confirms Return of Divisive Feature

Forza Horizon 6 is going to have the Auction House feature available from day one onward, developer Playground Games has confirmed. Forza Horizon 6 is the next logical step forward for the franchise in most ways that matter, and this means that some fairly divisive mainstays, like the Auction House, are sticking around still, giving particularly keen players an alternative way of earning money.

Now that Forza Horizon 6 has gone gold ahead of its March 19 launch date, the game is feature-complete and ready for release. Playground Games obviously hasn’t gone on record about every single menu, feature, and functionality available right off the bat, and the Auction House was one of the important items left off the discussion list up until now. With confirmation that it’s not been removed, however, the implications for the game’s economy are substantial.

Forza Horizon 6 Loyalty Rewards Revealed

Playground Games reveals loyalty rewards in Forza Horizon 6, awarding players who have played previous entries in the series with unique cars.

The Auction House Is Back in Forza Horizon 6

Forza Horizon 6 is going to have the Auction House, seemingly in more or less the same format as it was in Horizon 5. While some of the game’s features, like Forza Horizon 6‘s Japan region map, are practically universally beloved and hotly anticipated, the Auction House doesn’t garner the same sort of positivity. Franchise veterans will know that the prior games’ Auction House allowed players to bypass the rarity of certain vehicles and made it possible for savvy users to game the economy, moving credits around by the millions. The system also works in favor of players with the best possible network connections, as there was a lot of latency in moving between its sub-menus and submitting bids.

The Auction House is entirely optional, to be fair, and players who don’t wish to game the progression system don’t actually have to do so. It also shouldn’t be overly egregious early on, as it will take time for the game to accumulate seasonal, FOMO-heavy vehicles. Crucially, Playground Games has confirmed that there will be a way to earn rare cars from prior seasons in some way, which should help ease Forza Horizon 5‘s biggest problem: FOMO vehicle rarity. Engaging with Forza Horizon 6‘s premium content should feel much better with that in mind.

Whereas the responses to Playground Games’ announcement about the Auction House were largely positive on Twitter, the Reddit community is far more mixed about it. Players expect that there will be exploits floating about very early on but aren’t sure what shape they might take. The biggest Forza Horizon game yet will have more cars and car types than ever before. The legendary Barn Finds, for example, will now be joined by roadside Treasure Cars, bespoke customizations that players can discover simply by exploring the game world and purchase on the spot. Players will have to discover what kinds of prices they’ll fetch at the Auction House, and whether they’ll be unique or random spawns, once the game is out.

The fact of the matter is that Forza Horizon 6‘s economy is a big mystery still, and though the presence of the Auction House suggests tricky developments as the community interacts with it, Playground might’ve built in some safety railings this time around. Forza Horizon 6 should be a slower, more deliberate start because it’s going to copy the old Horizons‘ bracelet-based progression system and performance lockout, so big changes may well be afoot. At the same time, Forza Horizon 6 gets its own LEGO crossover, so some level of goofiness is going to be present regardless.
