Dungeon Crawler Carl fans have a new free game based on the popular book series to check out right now. The Dungeon Crawler Carl series has blown up among litRPG fans in recent years, so much so that it has spawned a TV adaptation and a tabletop RPG. An official Dungeon Crawler Carl video game can now be played for free as well, featuring some Easter eggs fans of the series are sure to enjoy.
Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl series follows the protagonist Carl and his feline companion, Princess Donut, as they brave their way through the World Dungeon, a massive, perilous dungeon created as part of the “Dungeon Crawler World” in-universe TV show that is being broadcast across the galaxy by the alien Borant Corporation. Within the World Dungeon, Crawlers gain skills, slay enemies, and level up their classes similar to traditional tabletop RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons. This combination of elements, combined with the series’s endearing characters, has made it a breakout hit in the litRPG genre.
Princess Donut Stars in This Free Dungeon Crawler Carl Game
In a post shared to the Dungeon Crawler Carl subreddit, Maeve Chocolate announced its collaboration with the franchise, creating a chocolate bar based on Princess Donut’s favorite drink, the Virgin Dirty Shirley. As part of this collaboration, Maeve Chocolate has created a free in-browser game called Mama’s Night Off, where players take control of Princess Donut and fire her signature Magic Missile spell at falling cherries in an attempt to earn a high score. It’s simple, but addicting, and makes for a great distraction while fans wait for a full-scale Dungeon Crawler Carl game.

Hitting cherries with Princess Donut’s Magic Missile spell is accompanied by a “pew!” sound effect, voiced by Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobook narrator Jeff Hays. After completing the game, players will also be treated to Jeff Hays narrating an achievement message from Dungeon Crawler World’s AI dungeon master, just like Carl and Donut receive in the books. Although Mama’s Night Out is rather short, it’s one of the better Flash games players can find online these days, and makes for a nice callback to the classic Flash games of the early Internet.
While Mama’s Night Out is not the most robust Dungeon Crawler Carl game experience, fans looking for something a bit meatier have the upcoming Dungeon Crawler Carl tabletop RPG, which is set to release in December 2026. Developed by Renegade Game Studios in collaboration with Matt Dinniman, the Dungeon Crawler Carl TTRPG allows players to experience the World Dungeon as they try to survive, gain viewers, and earn corporate sponsors. It includes a 300-page rulebook with 30 classes to choose from and focuses on the challenges found between the third and fifth floors of the dungeon.

Even more Dungeon Crawler Carl content is on the horizon, with a live-action TV show confirmed to be in the works at Peacock and Seth McFarlane’s Fuzzy Door Studios. However, there is no release date attached to this project yet, so Dungeon Crawler Carl fans will need to be satisfied with Mama’s Night Out as a cute time-waster in the meantime.
