Jon Snow is making his return to the Game of Thrones franchise in 2027. From the very start of the franchise, Jon Snow has been positioned as one of the primary main characters in Game of Thrones, featured prominently as a POV character in the A Song of Ice and Fire books and presented as arguably the centerpiece of the HBO series. Kit Harrington did a fantastic job bringing the Jon Snow character to life, and so it’s understandable that there is still fan demand to see that version of the character.

There have been attempts to bring Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow back to HBO. There were reports that a Jon Snow spin-off series was in the works that would serve as a sequel to Game of Thrones, but those plans ultimately fell through. At the time of this writing, there have been no official announcements about a future Game of Thrones television project with Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow, but Harrington’s Jon Snow is returning to the franchise in 2027 regardless, thanks to the upcoming War for Westeros.

Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow Officially Returns in War for Westeros

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is an RTS game from PlaySide that is set to launch in 2027. Beyond the appealing prospect of reliving epic Game of Thrones battles, one of the main selling points of War for Westeros is that it is bringing back fan-favorite characters and using their likenesses from the show. This way, Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow can make his Game of Thrones comeback even if there are no plans to bring him back to a future TV show. Snow will be tied to the House Stark faction in War for Westeros, but he’s not coming alone.

Other major Game of Thrones characters are also confirmed to be coming back for War for Westeros. House Lannister will be led by Jaime Lannister, for example, and of course, Daenerys Targaryen will lead House Targaryen. Jon Snow’s archenemy, The Night King, will also be playable in Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, so fans will be able to pit the two against each other as part of the game’s large-scale RTS battles.

The rest of this article will have MAJOR SPOILERS for the Game of Thrones TV seriesThere were many Game of Thrones fans upset with the final season of the show and how it handled the ultimate showdown between Jon Snow and The Night King. Instead of Snow landing the killing blow on his longtime foe, Arya Stark is the one who ultimately defeats The Night King. War for Westeros, then, effectively gives players the chance to rewrite Game of Thrones‘ controversial ending by giving players the chance to have Jon Snow defeat The Night King and his undead army once and for all.

It should be worth pointing out that while no official plans have been announced when it comes to bringing Kit Harrington back as Jon Snow in a future Game of Thrones TV project, there is still a definite possibility. Snow is one of the few characters that survived the events of the Game of Thrones show, traveling beyond the Wall to live out his life among the wildlings. An Arya Stark sequel series is in development and could very well see her reunite with Snow in some capacity, but plans to that effect have not been announced and so fans should keep their expectations in check. Regardless, there are plenty of big Game of Thrones releases to look forward to in the years ahead, with the final season of House of the Dragon coming, at least two more seasons of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in development, and even an Aegon’s Conquest movie on the way. Hopefully, we get more video games like War for Westeros, too.
