Game of Thrones Is Officially Bringing Back Two Fan-Favorite Characters in 2027

Two iconic characters from the original Game of Thrones series and books are officially coming back in 2027 through a brand-new release. While the main TV show has long ended, Game of Thrones has become a staple of television and gaming thanks to multiple releases over the years, including various mobile games and spin-off shows. House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are prime examples of how Game of Thrones stayed relevant on screen, and now one of the biggest and most anticipated games, called Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, is coming soon.

Game of Thrones fans are still waiting for the sixth book in the series to come out, which George R. R. Martin has repeatedly delayed. The writer recently shared a blog post explaining how his health is complicating things, and how losing friends and loved ones has affected him and his work. For those still waiting for some major plot points to be translated to TV, a new game coming in 2027 will do just that for several major characters in the series, and it will bring back Game of Thrones‘ Daenerys, Jon Snow, and others.

Game Of Thrones: Who Was The First Person To Go West Of Westeros Before Arya?

Long before Maisie Williams’ Arya Stark, some more characters from the Game of Thrones lore dared to explore the west of Westeros.

Game of Thrones‘ Arya Stark will return in 2027 alongside The Mountain, both being playable characters in Game of Thrones: War for Westeros. Interestingly, the game will allow fans to choose between a few commanders for each house between House Stark, House Targaryen, and House Lannister, with Arya championing the Starks and The Mountain being playable for the Lannisters. During the campaign, some characters may be slain by the player, and the same goes in multiplayer games, with the ending taking one character to the Iron Throne to sit on it. Eerily, this can also lead to the Night King sitting on the Throne, which would imply a scenario where all of Westeros has been turned into White Walkers.

The fact that Game of Thrones‘ Night King is returning alongside the game doesn’t mean that he will exclusively be a villain, as players will be able to control him and the Night Walkers. Still, among the main houses, it’s interesting to see Arya and The Mountain as playable characters for opposing factions because the former has had the latter on her kill list for a long time, but she was denied an opportunity to actually take the soldier out. In the TV show, it’s The Hound who takes out The Mountain, but he also presumably dies in the process. In Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, however, players can take control of Arya and defeat The Mountain — or do the opposite.

There are several characters on Arya’s kill list in Game of Thrones that she never has a chance to exact revenge on, though she does take out some of them. The Mountain, on the other hand, has slain several characters over the books and seasons of the TV show, and is arguably one of the strongest characters in the franchise.

Among the Game of Thrones characters who can defeat The Mountain, at least in theory, it was technically Oberyn Martell who killed him via poison, though he also perished in their duel in Season 4. The Mountain was then brought back through alchemy and necromancy by Maester Qyburn, only to face his ultimate demise in Season 8.
