Game of Thrones star Kit Harington, who portrayed Jon Snow in the HBO series, is apparently hyped for Grand Theft Auto 6. He took the opportunity to discuss the game recently, and it’s just one more indication of the massive impact GTA 6 is having on the world before it’s even out.
There’s a little less than two months to go before the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, and the excitement for the new entry is practically palpable in the gaming community. The impact of the game is expected to be so massive that Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to cost the US economy $1 billion due to people taking time off of work to play the game. Even those who ordinarily aren’t all that interested in video games can’t help but take note of the cultural juggernaut that is Grand Theft Auto 6.
Kit Harington Talks Grand Theft Auto 6
Kit Harington of Game of Thrones fame recently sat down to talk with Josh Horowitz, and the topic of video games came up. The Jon Snow actor admitted that despite starring in multiple video games and even the film adaptation of Silent Hill 3, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, he hasn’t played many games, but he does want to play Grand Theft Auto 6. The breadth of his experience with gaming is apparently limited to games like Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, Tekken, and “the Harry Potter game,” which was most likely referring to Hogwarts Legacy. Horowitz seemed a bit surprised that Harington had never played GTA, to which Harington acknowledged that he did want to play GTA 6. Harington’s attention has been captured by advertisements for the game and viral comedy skits involving GTA.
As mentioned, Harington has appeared in a few games over the years, including reprising his role as Jon Snow in Telltale’s Game of Thrones series. He was also featured in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare as Salen Kotch, but apparently hasn’t played either of those games. However, it may simply be a matter of not quite recalling them, as he initially struggled to remember which video game adaptation he had starred in before recalling it was part of the Silent Hill franchise. Curiously, his apparent history with Tekken seems to be at odds with the other games he’s played, as the remainder are fairly approachable for non-gamers.
It’s not all that much of a surprise that Harington is interested in GTA 6, even as someone who appears to largely be a non-gamer. Though the game’s real effect won’t be felt until its release, it’s already having a huge impact. Some analysts initially predicted that GTA 6 would net $1 billion in pre-orders, but the game reportedly smashed past that within a mere hour of pre-orders opening. With over 39 million copies pre-ordered by the end of June, the impact on the economy may also be larger than anyone yet realizes.
However, not everyone will be able to access GTA 6 right off the bat. The excitement for the game has also led to a surge in interest in the PlayStation 5 Pro, with the cost of the console from third-party sellers skyrocketing as a result. It’s possible that stock of Xbox Series X consoles may also be impacted as the release date draws closer. PC gamers, on the other hand, are still waiting to hear when the game will release for them, so a second major wave of sales and impact may very well arrive when that finally happens.
