Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is officially bringing back Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons, as well as the Night King, now in a very chilling scenario. Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is a highly anticipated new game in GoT‘s universe, and it’s a real-time strategy title coming early in 2027 on PC. Not only does War for Westeros include a typical RTS campaign mode, but players will also be able to engage in multiplayer battles while leading iconic characters and houses within Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones: War for Westeros has been delayed to 2027 recently, much to the disappointment of fans. The game was slated for a late 2026 release, but between GTA 6 and many other titles launching in the holiday season this year, it was probably a wise move from developer PlaySide Studios to delay it to early 2027. George R. R. Martin’s universe has been getting more and more releases in recent years, but most of the games that came out recently were for mobile, making War for Westeros an interesting exception in the Steam landscape.
Game of Thrones Officially Adds New Dark, Alternate Endings
Game of Thrones: War for Westeros appeared at Gamescom Opening Night Live with a new trailer that brings back the Night King and Daenerys Targaryen as leaders of their respective armies, and if players win a match, they get to sit on the Iron Throne. The game includes House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, and the Night King’s army, complete with White Walkers, undead Giants, and more. The trailer showed Jon Snow leading House Stark alongside his direwolf Ghost, Jamie Lannister leading House Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons finally conquering the throne, and the Night King getting to sit on the Iron Throne should players use his army and win.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros‘ armies use asymmetrical strategies and powers, and each different leader will come with unique abilities, including both Daenerys Targaryen and the Night King. Given the list of commanders for House Stark, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros may give Jon Snow his Night King kill payoff that the series didn’t. Likewise, the game will allow fans to take a look at the chilling scenario of the Night King actually winning, sitting on the Iron Throne in a now-empty and dead Westeros.
Though since this is an RTS game, fans will need to temper expectations in terms of cutscenes, and those in today’s trailer at Gamescom may not reflect the actual gameplay. Daenerys’ dragons are not the only ones making a comeback, though, as Game of Thrones: Dragonfire brings back five dragons from the lore and the House of the Dragons TV show.
The Game of Thrones comebacks don’t end there, though. Recently, Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming brought back Brienne of Tarth and Oathkeeper, one of the two Valyrian Steel swords forged by the Lannisters in Season 4, Episode 1, when Ned Stark’s legendary Ice was melted down.
