The world of Westeros has never been short on memorable Targaryens, but some have always stood out more than others, with one taking center stage in Game of Thrones: The Brightflame. The family has produced legendary kings, conquerors, dragons, and more than a few deeply unstable members over the centuries. One of the more infamous examples is Aerion Targaryen, whose reputation has now become even more relevant thanks to the recent expansion of the Game of Thrones universe.
Aerion’s story is also receiving more attention through A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which takes place decades before the events of Game of Thrones and follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire, Egg. The series has brought several lesser-seen characters from Game of Thrones into the spotlight, including Aerion, played by Finn Bennett. His appearance gives the character another connection to a much wider audience beyond readers familiar with the Targaryen family tree.
Game of Thrones: The Brightflame Begins on October 21
Game of Thrones: Legends is officially bringing Aerion Targaryen back with a new summon called The Brightflame. The new summon begins October 21 and runs through November 18, giving players nearly a month to pursue its featured Legendary Champions. Aerion is the centerpiece of The Brightflame, with the nickname serving as the title for the entire summon, and he is joined by Game of Thrones: Legends‘ Egg, Osha, Walder Frey, Rhaenyra Targaryen, and Alicent Hightower.

The Brightflame gives players a chance to obtain Champion Shards through the game’s summon system, with Gold and different Summoning Tokens used for chance-based pulls. Those Champion Shards can then be used to unlock and strengthen characters. The system has changed over time as the game has introduced new ways of obtaining Legendary characters, including its newer Exalted Summon system, but The Brightflame remains focused on bringing a specific group of characters together for a limited period.
The lineup is particularly interesting because it connects characters from very different parts of Westeros’ history. Aerion and Egg come directly from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, while Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower are associated with the much earlier events of House of the Dragon.
The Brightflame will also arrive during an especially busy stretch for the game. Lord of the Hightower runs from October 7 through November 4 and features Ormund and Gwayne Hightower alongside Otto, Rhaenyra, Aegon II, and Sunfyre. The Unlikely Heir Kingsroad season begins October 12, while October’s schedule also includes Grand Melees and returning events tied to Robb’s War, the Battle of the Bastards, House of the Dragon, the Battle of Blackwater Bay, and the Assault on Rook’s Rest. For Aerion Targaryen, The Brightflame provides another chance to bring one of Westeros’ more unusual Targaryens into the center of the action.
