Jacob Geller, a critic and video essayist on YouTube with over a million subscribers and a cohost on video game channel MinnMax, has been ousted from the channel following accusations of sexual assault.
The allegations first surfaced on September 30 on X when a since-deleted post claimed Geller was fired from a job at University of North Carolina’s college radio station in 2016 following an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct. The claim was posted online in the wake of renewed discussions about sexual assault on college campuses following a recently filed civil lawsuit over an alleged rape at Cornell in 2024.
After the allegation was picked up by the gaming forum ResetEra and gained traction on social media, some people went digging and found that in 2020, UNC was ordered by the North Carolina Supreme Court to release records of students who had violated the institution’s sexual assault policy. The list included 15 students who attended between 2007 and 2020.
Geller’s name appears in the backup of those records stored on the Internet Archive. They appear to indicate that he violated the school’s policies on “Sexual Assault or Sexual Violence” and was given a “definite suspension for one semester,” aligning with the original allegations that claimed he was only suspended for one semester.
MinnMax released an initial statement calling the allegations “deeply upsetting” on its Discord server and letting fans know it was having “internal conversations about the next steps” on September 30. It has now released a new statement on October 1 saying Geller is officially no longer part of the channel.
“Jacob Geller is no longer a part of MinnMax,” the statement posted on Bluesky read. “He won’t be on content moving forward and we won’t be publicly airing this week’s episode of The MinnMax Show. We’re in shock and deeply hurt. Thank you for your patience during this sensitive time.”
We reached out to Geller for comment on this story, but didn’t hear back in time for publication. Outside of MinnMax, podcast Cane and Rinse has put out a statement confirming it will be removing all episodes featuring Geller.
