Genshin Impact is continuing its quality-of-life streak with Version 4.8, as it is raising the cap on all non-artifact items to 99,999. This long-requested change will make inventory management much easier, and will make item hoarders in Genshin Impact very happy. Juggling the different currencies in Genshin Impact can be a hassle, as Primogems, Intertwined Fates, Masterless Starglitter, and Original Resin all play a role in how players can engage with the gameplay and gacha aspects of the game. Having an elaborate inventory system on top of it can prove to be overwhelming at times.
Most items in Genshin Impact serve to either upgrade weapons and characters, or allow players to interact with the world of Teyvat. They can set down a Crystalfly Trap to passively collect Crystal Cores, or place a temporary Portable Waypoint at a location of their choosing. However, the vast majority fall into the latter category, with each character and weapon having their own elaborate list of ascension materials. It’s easy for Genshin Impact players to get carried away collecting herbs such as Mint, and a fair few have already reached the previous cap of 9,999.

Genshin Impact Leak Reveals Stunning New Limited Area For 4.8
A Genshin Impact leak shows in-game screenshots of the new limited area that will arrive with the summer event in Version 4.8.
Information about the new item cap in Genshin Impact was shared via Team Mew, who linked an image from the beta servers for Version 4.8. While Weapon Enhancement Materials already had a cap of 99,999, this quality-of-life change will extend that limit to every other item type, with the sole exception being Artifacts due to the amount of data they need to store. While this comes as a disappointment to players who were hoping for a bigger inventory cap on Artifacts in Genshin Impact, there is always a possibility that HoYoverse will make further changes in Version 5.0 and beyond.
Genshin Impact Raises the Item Cap to 99,999 in Version 4.8
Though the patch cycle in Fontaine introduced plenty of memorable characters to Genshin Impact, such as Navia, Neuvillette, and Furina, it’s highly likely that it will be remembered for the large number of improvements and quality-of-life changes it made to the base game. From the Serenitea Pot, to leveling Artifacts and weapons, the Fontaine updates touched upon a lot of features that became clunky over the course of the game’s history. Raising the item cap in Version 4.8 should be the perfect capstone for Fontaine, as Genshin Impact makes way for Natlan and its mounts in Version 5.0.
Another noteworthy aspect of Version 4.8 is the addition of a new cosmetic type to Genshin Impact, as players will be able to unlock Trail Appearances for certain characters, such as Diluc or Jean. These visual effects will follow the characters as they move, and will be obtainable through the Imaginarium Theater. Despite featuring a temporary zone, Version 4.8 is expected to be a stacked update, where players will have ample opportunity to stack up on Primogems before they enter the nation of Natlan in late August 2024.
