A massive LEGO set based on Godzilla has been spotted in the wild after prematurely ending up on the store shelves of one retailer weeks ahead of its expected November 2026 launch. While the existence of the brick-built kaiju replica is not a surprise, the final design LEGO decided to commercialize certainly is.
The upcoming set originated as a LEGO Ideas project from fan designer Matthew Esposito, better known on the platform as MattE720. Submitted in December 2023, the project reached the required 10,000 supporters by the following October, earning a place in the Third 2024 LEGO Ideas Review covering 54 qualifying submissions. The Danish company selected it for product development in June 2025, confirming that Esposito would work with LEGO designers on the commercial version. However, what that collaboration ultimately produced remained under wraps until now.
LEGO Ideas 21375 Godzilla Set Appears in Store Ahead of Reveal
The final design of the upcoming model surfaced online on October 31, showing what appears to be the retail box for the LEGO Ideas set 21375, simply called Godzilla, already sitting on a store shelf. The packaging identifies the 18+ model as a 5,363-piece build, substantially larger than the roughly 2,500-3,000-piece estimate Esposito previously gave for his fan model.

The commercial version differs considerably from the LEGO Ideas submission that started the project. Esposito’s model has a more forward-leaning posture, a stockier silhouette, and predominantly dark dorsal plates. By contrast, the retail build shown on the leaked box stands much more upright and features altered proportions, extensively reworked shaping, and large bright-blue dorsal plates. Its presentation also prominently incorporates Godzilla’s blue atomic breath effect. Major changes of this sort are not unusual for LEGO Ideas projects, as winning submissions serve merely as starting points for products that LEGO’s designers develop in collaboration with their original creators.
The piece count confirmed by the leaked box also puts the scale of the redesign into perspective. Assuming the photographed packaging reaches stores as shown, Godzilla is poised to become the sixth-largest LEGO set released in 2026 by piece count. It would slot between the 5,682-piece Venetian Neighbourhood and the 4,851-piece Ninjago: The Old Town 15th Anniversary. Despite being massive in its own right, it is still far less than half the size of LEGO’s 21065 Sagrada Familia, which is scheduled for release on November 1 as the company’s largest set of all time.

According to earlier reports, 21375 Godzilla is expected to launch on Black Friday, November 27. LEGO has already confirmed a variety of sets for its November 2026 wave, but if this Ideas project is indeed scheduled for the final days of the month, its official announcement may still be several weeks away. The imposing kaiju set is rumored to cost between $449.99 and $499.99.
