God of War Laufey actor Deborah Ann Woll (perhaps best known for her role as Karen Page in Daredevil and related series) was recently asked about the fan backlash to the game during a fan convention. Her response was perfectly fitting and a reminder that sometimes hate campaigns online are just that, hate campaigns online. More so, she also expressed confidence in God of War Laufey, helping build even more anticipation for the game.

As many fans know, God of War Laufey was revealed at the State of Play in June 2026 with tons of gameplay. It’s not often that games go straight into gameplay, but this reveal did. Part of that is likely because God of War Laufey is releasing in early 2027, meaning Woll has potentially seen more of it than anyone outside Santa Monica’s walls. However, the dust on the reveal didn’t even settle before many folks began hating on the game, primarily for replacing Kratos as the protagonist with Woll’s character—Kratos’ titular wife, also known as Faye.

God of War Laufey’s Deborah Ann Woll’s Official Response to Haters Online

Deborah Ann Woll recently did a signing at Florida Supercon where a fan wanted to ensure she wasn’t impacted by the hateful campaign against God of War Laufey, as first reported by Push Square, and Woll’s response was spot-on. It seems the fan didn’t even need to reassure her, as her initial response was to say, “I mean, genuinely, I thought I was going to be much more affected by it.” Woll continued,

“One, I’m not on social media, so that helps. And two, I feel totally unbothered because I just know [God of War Laufey] is great. Like, it’s okay if it’s not your cup of tea, but in no universe is it bad or ugly.”

Build your perfect top ten one reveal at a time.

That’s great to hear because sometimes there are people behind the scenes who are affected by such scales of hatred, yet Woll is unbothered and confident in the game that Santa Monica is making. In fact, she’s involved in its road to release, too. Santa Monica Studio is hosting a God of War Laufey panel at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24, and Woll is set to appear alongside other cast members and developers. Namely, that includes Head of Creative Cory Barlog, Game Director Ariel Lawrence, Kratos actor Christopher Judge, Phranque the Cube actor Jack Quaid, and Rue the Ribbon actor Perlina Lau.

Combined with the upcoming trilogy remake of the original God of War games, plus Santa Monica’s statement that Kratos would still be the main character in future games, and it’s clear that God of War and Santa Monica have a bright future ahead. God of War Laufey is an exciting new chapter in that overarching story, with the hate campaign already dying down and likely to be completely extinguished by the time the game releases.

God of War Laufey is going to be available on discs for PS5 consoles, a statement also made necessary by PlayStation’s decision to end disc production in January 2028. In other words, the game industry is squeezing, contracting, and changing, but hopefully, players soon realize that Santa Monica Studio’s dedication to Play and to Greatness isn’t what’s changing.
