Gotham Knights Developer Hit With Layoffs

Gotham Knights Developer Hit With Layoffs

According to LinkedIn profiles of three former Warner Bros. Montreal developers, the studio behind Gotham Knights may have experienced a recent round of layoffs. Founded as a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Games in 2010, WB Games Montreal is best known for developing 2013’s Batman: Arkham Origins and 2022’s Gotham Knights.

These layoffs are just another in a long line for Warner Bros. Games, with the company experiencing a great deal of turbulence over the last few years. While Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game of 2023, 2024 saw the release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a game that was reportedly a $200 million loss for Warner Bros. In early 2025, WB shut down Multiversus, canceled its in-development Wonder Woman game, and closed the doors on three studios: Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. And now, Warner Bros. Discovery as an entire entity is in the process of being acquired by Paramount.

No, DC Allies Isn’t a Real Thing, But It Totally Should Be

A parody of Marvel Rivals called DC Allies is rapidly rising in popularity, and as funny as it is, I do hope a real game resembling it happens.

Warner Bros. Games Montreal Reportedly Hit With Layoffs

WB Games Montreal's Past Failures

As first spotted by Eurogamer, three members of Warner Bros. Games Montreal seem to have left the studio on Friday, March 13. These three developers are Ceri Young, a former Associate Narrative Director, Camille Olivier Paquette, a former Level Designer on Gotham Knights, and Nicolas Pereira-Poisson, a former Associate Producer.

All three former WB Montreal devs made LinkedIn posts on March 13 stating that they were no longer working at the studio and that they were now looking for work elsewhere. While none of the posts specifically state the reason behind their departure from the studio, Pereira-Poisson’s post does expressly state that he was “affected by layoffs.” According to their LinkedIn profiles, Young had worked at WB Games Montreal for over eight years, Paquette for almost seven, and Periera-Poisson for nine. It’s currently unclear if anyone else at WB Games Montreal has been affected.

Warner Bros. has yet to officially comment on these WB Games Montreal layoffs, and as such there’s been no official reasoning given. That said, it seems very likely that WB Games’ recent commercial disappointments and the ongoing Paramount acquisition are key contributing factors behind the potential layoffs. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos said that Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. is “dependent on a lot of cost-cutting.” Netflix was originally the leading bid for the WB acquisition, and that allegedly gave the streaming company access to Warner Bros.’ financial data. According to Sarandos, WB’s biggest costs right now are production staff, and that Paramount is planning “cuts in excess of $16 billion.”

Again, it hasn’t been officially confirmed, but it’s very possible that this recent round of Warner Bros. Games Montreal layoffs is just a sign of things to come for Warner Bros. as a whole. If Paramount is indeed planning such dramatic cuts, then it’s very likely that more layoffs are on the way for not just Warner Bros.’ various video game subsidiaries, but its movie and TV departments as well.

Back in November 2024, long before Paramount began the process of acquiring the company, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav confirmed that its games division was “substantially underperforming,” and that the company was going to be refocusing its efforts on four “strong and profitable” franchises: Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and DC. In June of the following year, the heads of WB Games Montreal, WB Games New York, and NetherRealm were promoted and given new roles as the overseers of these four franchises. It’s still unclear how these leadership changes will affect the future of WB Games.
