Grand Theft Auto Devs Reveal Brand New Game Based on Kaijus

Beastlink is a brand new 32-person multiplayer game where players—as humans, in vehicles, or as colossal Kaiju—do battle in fully destructible cities, and it’s coming from developers who most recently worked on Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Namely, it’s coming from the studio Grove Street Games, which has primarily worked on ports of Rockstar’s games since 2011.

Right now, of course, many fans are eagerly awaiting any news on the newest entry in the franchise, Grand Theft Auto 6. Because its initial release date was later this month and Rockstar parent company Take-Two has an earnings call slated for May 21, fans think GTA 6 Trailer 3 could drop any day now. That remains to be seen, but given the experience Grove Street Games has (even considering its critically panned GTA Trilogy – Definitive Edition port), Beastlink is still something worth watching.

GTA 6 CEO is “Terrified” of Its Release

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has some concerns about GTA 6’s release, specifically fan expectations around the game.

What is Beastlink, the Next Game From Grove Street Games?

In Beastlink, the world came to an “end” and evolved into something new, where humans hide in strongholds, Kaiju rule the world, and technology that can link the two exists. Players face off in fully destructible cities, attempting to collect a serum that allows them to connect to the towering Kaiju nearby, and each Kaiju comes with its own unique abilities and combat styles. There are multiple game modes in this Kaiju game, some of which can be played solo, and huge maps to support the scale of its gameplay.

As Kaiju, players will be able to smash skyscrapers, obliterate city blocks, and reshape the skyline with new “SuperDestruction” tech that results in a destruction gameplay system where everything can be turned to dust. As outlined on Beastlink’s Steam page, fans can expect the following features:

  • Earn serum and BeastLink with dormant Kaiju, unlocking unique abilities, playstyles, and devastating powers.
  • Fight as a human, support your squad with vehicles, or become the ultimate weapon. Every role is needed in large-scale, team-based warfare.
  • Level entire cities with a fully-networked, physics-based destruction system. Collapse buildings, carve new paths, and weaponize the environment. Every match reshapes the map – nothing is off limits! Destroy anything you see! Each map contains hundreds of thousands of destructible items!
  • Battle across huge maps designed for up to 32 players and multiple active Beasts, delivering chaotic gameplay at scale.
  • Control a growing roster of Beasts, each with distinct strengths, abilities, and playstyles, from agile aerial hunters to relentless close-range brutes.
  • Uncover the truth behind the world-ending outbreak and the cost of keeping humanity alive

Months ago, Grove Street Games reported that it would release a new game in 2026, and that appears to be Beastlink. It’ll enter Early Access on Steam at some point this summer, with the first closed beta weekend beginning on May 8, so devs can expand on its core destruction gameplay through player feedback. It remains to be seen how it shakes out, but it’s worth noting that one bad release should not define a developer’s future.

While Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition was bad, the dev had worked on 6 Rockstar ports before that, which saw much less hateful fanfare. It does remain to be seen how this works out, especially as it is “uncharted territory” for the dev, but it’s been a long time since a proper, scalable, completely destructible world game dominated the scene. Maybe Beastlink can be that.
