Grand Theft Auto 6 will see a significant quality-of-life improvement over its predecessor in how the game handles running. As more from Grand Theft Auto 6 emerges via official channels and leaks, fans are getting more and more excited.
While Grand Theft Auto 6 is tantalizing fans with reveals, there has also been an active investigation underway. In the lead-up to the new Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer, a leaker began pouring footage onto the internet of what appeared to be an earlier build of the game, much to the chagrin of Rockstar Games developers. That leaker is actively being pursued by Take-Two Interactive, which has already filed subpoenas in its efforts to track them down.
Grand Theft Auto 6 Is Making a Significant Change to Running
Now, new information has been shared by a YouTuber called MikeShowSha, who was given the opportunity to try out the game for a couple of hours at Rockstar North. Among many topics, one of the things he mentions is that running in Grand Theft Auto 6 has changed compared to how GTA 5 was at launch, with no need for button mashing in order to keep the character moving fast. Instead, players will simply have to press the left analog stick on their controller, which will set either Lucia or Jason into a run and remain that way until the player stops their motion entirely or presses the analog stick again. While it may seem like a small detail, it’s one that every player will be utilizing regularly, so the change is significant.

When Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online launched, both required players to button-mash in order to get their characters running. This could not only be exhausting over time, but during intense moments, like during gunfights, it could also make surviving more difficult. Grand Theft Auto 5 did eventually change this to allow users to press the left analog stick to run, but only a few years ago. Given that players had to put up with tapping to run for around ten years, many will likely be glad to see that Rockstar isn’t returning to that control scheme with GTA 6.
The control scheme that was available during previews held at the Rockstar North studio is likely the default. However, it’s possible that players may be able to change them, as well. Over the years since GTA 5‘s release, accessibility in gaming has become a stronger focus for both hardware and game developers. Adding options to change tapping to a toggle, or providing completely alternate control schemes in order to reach more players have been popular moves in the past. While it’s clearly drowning in popularity already, with GTA 6 making $1 billion in just an hour, the more players who can access it, the better it is for both the fanbase and the developer.
Early reports indicate that GTA 6‘s gameplay impresses as much as its visuals, and quality-of-life improvements are just as important as eye candy. Time will tell if Grand Theft Auto 6 can truly live up to the tremendous hype that’s been built up around it. With Rockstar sharing more reassurances that the game won’t be further delayed, it won’t be long before players can decide for themselves.
