Grand Theft Auto 6 fans are convinced that the wait for a third trailer is very nearly at an end, with speculation and theories that developer Rockstar Games could drop it as soon as this week. Although there are now just six months left to go until the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, it has been over a year since Rockstar released the most recent trailer for the game, which was accompanied by dozens of new screenshots and an updated website with details on the title’s locations and characters.

Earlier this year, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that marketing for Grand Theft Auto 6 will begin in the Summer. He went on to double down on these plans recently by stating that news will be shared “soon.” For a company as big as Take-Two, it’s unheard of for marketing plans to be announced ahead of time. However, after Grand Theft Auto 6 was delayed multiple times since its reveal in 2023, the CEO is clearly attempting to instill confidence in the community that Rockstar has no plans to delay the highly anticipated title once again.

GTA Online Confirms Major Summer Update, And It Could Be Its Last

Rockstar Games confirms a major new update for Grand Theft Auto Online will be released in the Summer, and there’s a chance it could be its last.

GTA 6 Theories Point Towards a New Trailer This Week

There have been many, many wild theories about Grand Theft Auto 6 over the years, with some making much more sense than others. As fans patiently wait for Trailer 3, speculation is continuing to mount that it could be shared as early as this week. Earlier today, one user monitoring the Rockstar Games Launcher noticed that the developer intentionally restarted it on the morning of May 11, leading to more theories that this is related to the studio preparing something for Trailer 3. Of course, this is far from confirmation, but it’s now just the latest sign that something could happen this week.

The most solid theory that suggests Grand Theft Auto 6‘s third trailer will release sometime in May is due to Take-Two Interactive confirming that it will host its next quarterly earnings call on May 21. Again, this isn’t a guarantee, but Rockstar has been known to share details regarding its upcoming titles prior to Take-Two earnings calls in order to reassure investors that everything remains on track. As pointed out by a user on Reddit, much of Rockstar’s previous releases, including Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, shared much of their promotional material within a month of a Take-Two earnings call, and Grand Theft Auto 6 seems to be on the exact same track.

Further speculation arose recently after PlayStation began urging PS4 users to upgrade to a PS5, specifically for the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 19. This is not something the company has ever done before, but given that Strauss Zelnick recently alluded to having some form of deal with PlayStation for GTA 6, it makes sense for Sony to push users to buy a PS5. But many fans questioned, why now? Given that there has been so much speculation about Trailer 3 dropping in May, fans believe PlayStation’s email is no coincidence.

This also aligns with the sudden removal of the PlayStation Store ‘Deals’ tab, which the studio has confirmed will return on May 13. As Rockstar has been known to announce things on a Tuesday, this sparked even more theories that pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 will open on Tuesday, May 12, alongside Trailer 3. If that were the case, PlayStation may have removed deals from the storefront to prepare for the influx of traffic it may be about to experience.

Take-Two’s CEO has also been very vocal about Grand Theft Auto 6 over the last few weeks, not only stating that marketing will begin “soon,” but also admitting that he is personally terrified of its release due to the expectations of the community. Zelnick also recently revealed that he has been shown an early preview of Grand Theft Auto 6, and while he wouldn’t reveal any specifics, he did describe it as “amazing.”
