GTA 6 Officially Bringing Back Red Dead 2 Gameplay Feature

GTA 6 Officially Bringing Back Red Dead 2 Gameplay Feature

GTA 6 players will have a little extra help making sense of their surroundings, and Red Dead Redemption 2 fans should recognize the inspiration. Rockstar’s games have steadily given players more ways to interact with their worlds, whether that means studying wildlife, investigating something suspicious, or spotting a threat before it becomes a problem. With GTA 6 bringing that attention to detail into the crowded streets of Vice City, being able to pick something out of the chaos could prove especially useful.

The connection between GTA 6 and Red Dead Redemption 2 extends well beyond how their worlds look. Rockstar has already discussed making safehouses more interactive, giving Jason and Lucia places that feel closer to Red Dead Redemption 2’s camps. Other familiar ideas include studying animals, slowing down time during combat, and so forth. Some returning ideas, however, could have more immediate consequences during a getaway than, say, the camps.

GTA 6 Officially Confirms Disgusting New Gameplay Feature

Rockstar Games releases new Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay footage that confirms a particularly gross gameplay feature.

GTA 6’s Focus Feature Explained

In an interview with IGN, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson demonstrated a feature called Focus. During the gameplay session, Nelson activated the ability and made a nearby police officer glow, helping identify the threat. However, that’s only one example, as players can use the feature to locate anything they are looking for in GTA 6‘s open world:

“This is something called ‘Focus’, which is very similar to ‘Eagle Eye’ in Red Dead Redemption 2.”

For anyone unfamiliar with Red Dead Redemption 2, Eagle Eye helps players identify useful details in the environment, including animal tracks and other points of interest. Nelson’s comparison suggests GTA 6 will put a similar tool to work in a very different setting. Picking out a police officer could help players decide where to go or when to wait, among a plethora of other choices tied to GTA 6‘s gameplay. Nelson did not provide an exhaustive list of what Focus can highlight, leaving its broader exploration uses open.

GTA 6’s Extended Look also showcased gameplay slowing down during combat, giving Jason more time to line up shots. This appears to be connected to Focus, although Nelson’s explanation in the interview does not explicitly establish that both functions belong to the same system. The combat footage more closely resembles Red Dead Redemption 2’s Dead Eye, while the officer-highlighting demonstration fits his Eagle Eye comparison. Taken together, they suggest GTA 6 could combine familiar Rockstar ideas into an ability useful both during shootouts and outside them.

How these tools fit together will matter more than their similarities on paper. GTA 6 gives Jason and Lucia several ways to handle police attention, including changing vehicles, changing outfits, and splitting up. Focus could help players make those decisions before a bad situation escalates. Spotting an officer early might be all it takes to avoid another chase, while the slow-motion combat shown in GTA 6 offers a possible fallback when a quiet escape is already off the table.
