GTA Online’s Latest Update Adds Big Changes for December

The highly anticipated ‘A Safehouse in the Hills’ update for Grand Theft Auto Online is available to download now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The free content update is available for all Grand Theft Auto Online players, adding new missions, vehicles, and most importantly, luxurious mansion properties for players to obtain. Fans were also left surprised after Rockstar confirmed that the update will also see the return of an iconic Grand Theft Auto 5 protagonist: Michael De Santa.

Ever since its launch in 2013, Grand Theft Auto Online has been massively successful for developer Rockstar Games, cementing itself as one of the most popular live service titles of all time. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, however, as Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold over 220 million copies as of November 2025. The success of the game’s multiplayer counterpart has also been helped along by a steady stream of major free content updates. Fans often receive a new patch in the Summer and then one in the Winter, as well as some hotfixes in between, and the latest update has just gone live for players worldwide.

GTA 6 Ain’t Releasing in 2026. If Rockstar Somehow Pulls That Off, I’ll Eat My Hat.

GTA 6 has officially been delayed twice, from its fall 2025 window to May 2026 then to November 2026, and I bet it’ll happen again.

Grand Theft Auto Online Releases Big Mansions Update

After many months of leaks and rumors, Rockstar Games has officially released the latest Grand Theft Auto Online update, known as ‘A Safehouse in the Hills’. The update can be downloaded now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and not only sees the return of Michael De Santa, one of Grand Theft Auto 5‘s three main protagonists, but also introduces Prix Luxury Real Estate. Players can access the new feature from an in-game computer or mobile device, where they can then purchase one (or all) of the game’s three new mansion properties. The price of each mansion varies depending on the customization players apply to them, but the base cost is $11,500,000, $12,200,000, and $12,800,000.

It’s not all about mansions, though, as the December 10 update also introduces new vehicles, such as the Vapid FMJ MK V. However, the latest supercar comes with a catch, as it can only be accessed by GTA+ subscribers for the first week. But don’t worry, as there’s plenty more to keep players occupied, including some new missions that don’t require a mansion to be purchased in order to access.

If that wasn’t enough, Rockstar is adding a highly requested Mission Creator as part of the latest update. It’s available on all versions of Grand Theft Auto Online and is an in-depth and comprehensive toolkit that allows players to design and publish their own Missions using sophisticated game mechanics, custom objectives, placeable actors, and much more.

With Grand Theft Auto 6 set to launch next year, the future of Grand Theft Auto Online remains uncertain. Many speculate that Rockstar intends to release a new version of the multiplayer title alongside the next installment of the franchise in 2026, but this has yet to be confirmed by the studio. Some even believe that today’s ‘A Safehouse in the Hills’ update could be the last major patch for Grand Theft Auto Online, given that it finally gives players access to mansions and also sees the return of Michael, the third and final Grand Theft Auto 5 protagonist to be added to the live service title.

Sadly, there’s still quite a way to go until gamers have the next Grand Theft Auto game in their hands. While Rockstar initially intended to launch the title in Fall 2025, it was unexpectedly delayed to May 26, 2026. Fans were then left massively disappointed when the studio announced yet another delay to Grand Theft Auto 6, this time pushing it back to November 19, 2026.
