Highguard Leaks New Steampunk Character

A new leak has revealed three new Highguard Wardens that could be coming to the game in the near future. Nothing is confirmed at this point, but these Highguard characters are an interesting glimpse into potential new content, with one having some serious steampunk vibes.

Highguard is an interesting case in a line of titles struggling to make its mark as a live service title. It was revealed at The Game Awards 2025 as the final big announcement, before going quiet until its January 26, 2026 launch. Gamers turned out in big numbers for its initial launch, but its player count rapidly dropped amidst poor reviews. Despite the game’s director claiming Highguard‘s player count doesn’t matter, developer Wildlight Entertainment has already suffered mass layoffs just weeks after its release. This has thrown the release of its ambitious post-launch content roadmap into question.

Highguard Leak Shows Off Three New Wardens

Over on X, leaker X0X_LEAK shared an image of an unreleased Highguard Warden named Koldo, a Support character with a steampunk visual aesthetic. Koldo looks awesome, that much is for certain, but it’s how the character plays that really matters. Very little is known about the character based on the image, except that he has a Passive Power named Guardian Angel with the following description: “Protect any friendly orbs around you from destruction. Automatically deploy your shield when reviving allies.” This kind of supportive playstyle may not be for everyone, but Koldo looks cool enough that some players will still choose him regardless.

The image also displays two more unreleased Wardens. One is a female character with long brunette hair, while the other appears to be an alien-like green male. X0X_Leak says the female character is named Onyx, although very little is known about either of them, given the leak does not show off their full designs or abilities. According to X0X_LEAK, this leak comes from an unlisted Highguard YouTube video. As with all leaks, the existence of these Wardens should be taken with a pinch of salt. This is extra important considering Highguard‘s precarious situation at the moment. It remains unclear how much Highguard‘s content roadmap will be impacted by Wildlight’s recent layoffs, which means that there’s no guarantee these characters will ever see the light of day. In this instance, it’s going to be best to simply wait and see what happens.

Highguard has already added a new post-launch Warden named Ekon, who was introduced as part of the game’s Episode 2 update. Ekon can shapeshift into a wolf form, making him a unique addition to the character roster. So far, Highguard has done a good job of making each Warden feel distinct through gameplay, and from the leaked image, the same could be said about Koldo. Given the lack of details about the other two unreleased Wardens, it’s impossible to say the same about them either way.

The layoffs at Wildlight Entertainment make it very difficult to look at Highguard‘s future in a positive light. The similarities to Concord are obvious – they are both hero shooters that struggled to find an audience in an increasingly competitive live service environment. Concord was shut down within two weeks of its launch, but it’s also worth noting that Highguard at least had the benefit of a strong launch, with players willing to give the free-to-play title a try in big numbers. It would be a shame to see Highguard go the same direction, and with a cut-down development team, the game now faces an uphill battle to draw in players. Adding these leaked characters would be a great start.
