Highguard Store Page Removes Mention Of Apex Legends And Titanfall

Developer Wildlight has updated the store pages for the newly released free-to-play shooter Highguard to remove mention of how the game was developed in part by people who also worked on Apex Legends and Titanfall.

When the game’s Steam store page went up, the first line on it said, “From the creators of Apex Legends and Titanfall…” Today (via Kotaku), the listing begins by describing the game itself. The first line now reads, “Highguard is a PvP raid shooter where players will ride, fight, and raid as Wardens…”

The game’s Xbox and PlayStation store pages also do not mention Apex Legends or Titanfall, but it’s also not immediately clear if they ever did. The developers have not discussed why the references to Apex and Titanfall were removed from Steam or any other store pages.

Highguard was announced at The Game Awards in December. At the time, host Geoff Keighley introduced the game as being the next project from 60+ people who worked on Apex Legends and Titanfall. An Xbox Wire post published on January 26 still contains references to people who made Highguard previously working on Apex Legends and Titanfall, as well as Call of Duty.

Highguard was supposed to be a shadowdrop like Apex Legends, but Keighley saw the game early and enjoyed it so much that he offered Wildlight the close-out spot at The Game Awards to reveal it. The game has a “Mostly Negative” user rating on Steam and has prompted higher-ups in the gaming industry to come to Wildlight’s defense and urge people to be nice and give the game a chance.

The game peaked at nearly 100,000 concurrent users on Steam at launch day, but numbers have dramatically dropped off since then. The game is also available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Wildlight has announced a Year 1 roadmap of new content for the game, including more characters and maps. The studio has also told fans they can expect Highguard to stick around for the long haul.
