Highguard Studio Hit With Layoffs, Former Dev Says "Most Of The Team" Is Gone

Despite Highguard releasing less than three weeks ago, it appears that the game’s developer, Wildlight Entertainment, has already been hit with large-scale layoffs. The news comes not long after studio head Chad Grenier made news by saying “it doesn’t matter” whether the game gets “a thousand people or a hundred million people.”

In a post shared via LinkedIn, former Highguard level designer Alex Graner announced he was looking for work after being laid off by Wildlight. According to Graner, “most of the team” was let go.

“This one really stings as there was a lot of unreleased content I was really looking forward to that I and others designed for Highguard,” Garner wrote.

GameSpot has reached out to the studio for clarification on the layoffs and will add to this report as the story develops.

Although we found Highguard’s twist on the shooter genre to be refreshing, the game released to mixed reviews and has undergone several changes in the weeks since. The most notable of these was a permanent shift to 5v5 following criticism of its 3v3 gameplay.

Throughout this rocky period, Wildlight Entertainment has proven to be quite receptive to player feedback and has provided frequent updates to the game’s roadmap; the team even went as far as to promise that the game will have “more frequent updates” than previous titles the studio’s developers have worked on, such as Apex Legends. It remains to be seen if this will still be the case following today’s news.
