In a letter to shareholders, Warner Bros. Discovery has officially acknowledged and announced Hogwarts Legacy 2. No fan should be surprised, but besides some job listings/hirings for Hogwarts Legacy 2 found online by fans, there has been nothing official about the title so far. That has changed now that Warner Bros. Discovery opens up to discussing it.
It’s worth noting that this document is extensive, discussing everything under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella. This includes its 150 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, HBO Max’s success, the success of House of the Dragon, and of course, current and upcoming video games (like Hogwarts Legacy 2). The letter aimed to prove the company’s “ability to consistently deliver compelling, high-quality content that resonates with our increasingly global audience remains a key differentiator and foundational long-term value driver as consumption habits continue to evolve.”
Hogwarts Legacy 2 is Now Official
When this letter discusses the games coming out of WB Games’ pipeline, it begins by highlighting that its games division remains an important “growth lever” with long-term goals. It praises LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight as the highest-rated LEGO game ever and the launch of Game of Thrones: Dragonfire on mobile devices, all of which are part of WB Games’ previously announced plan to focus on four key franchises “with disciplined investment behind fewer, higher conviction titles.” One of those IPs is undoubtedly Harry Potter and specifically Hogwarts Legacy, with the letter continuing to state:
“We expect Games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.”

Naming Hogwarts Legacy 2 to investors is a key indicator that marketing for the game could begin soon. There are already tons of rumors and leaks around Hogwarts Legacy 2, and this confirmation supports some of these claims. Assuming development on Hogwarts Legacy 2 began around the release of the original in 2023 and smartly reuses key setpieces, there’s a reasonable chance that fans actually see the game for the first time later this year, perhaps at Gamescom or The Game Awards. That doesn’t mean Hogwarts Legacy 2 is releasing this year, almost certainly not, but it puts a 2027 or 2028 release window on the table if it were to receive a single teaser or trailer. Not to mention, that would reinforce shareholder confidence in WB Discovery.

After all, Hogwarts Legacy has achieved lifetime sales of over 40 million copies worldwide, generating more than $1 billion in revenue. The open-world action RPG became the fastest-selling game in Warner Bros. Games history and ranked among the best-selling video games of all time. Whether or not a sequel can replicate this success remains to be seen, but the right direction and launch would indubitably put it within striking distance.
It’s worth mentioning that WB was giving away free copies of Hogwarts Legacy earlier this year too, ensuring that anyone and everyone who wanted to play the game could. That’s a good tactic, after all those sales, to help fans buy into the sequel, and it’ll be interesting to see what else comes of the IP this year. But it’s official. The “second installment” of Hogwarts Legacy has been officially announced by WB Discovery.
