Highlights
- Hufflepuff students seemingly face bathroom struggles in Hogwarts Legacy, with long treks to the nearest restrooms from the common room being necessary.
- A Reddit user highlighted the disparity between Hufflepuff and other houses in terms of bathroom accessibility.
- While the students in-universe may struggle to relieve themselves, at least Hufflepuff players get to experience a fun exclusive quest in Hogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy allows its players to step into the life of a student at Hogwarts Castle from the Harry Potter franchise, undergoing several of the same rituals as in the books and movies, like the Sorting Ceremony. While players can be sorted into Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff houses, one player has discovered that Hogwarts Legacy does not treat all its students the same when it comes to hygeine.
The Hufflepuff Common Room is located in the basement of Hogwarts Castle, right next to the kitchens. While positive traits of Hufflepuff students include kindness and loyalty, their amicable nature may lead to some hardships, which in this case, seem to be built directly into the castle’s plumbing plans.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Emphasis on Combat Shouldn’t Be Lost in Its Sequel
Hogwarts Legacy had a lot of great strengths, but its emphasis on combat was a defining feature and one that shouldn’t be lost in a potential sequel.
One player on Reddit has noticed that Hufflepuff students get the short end of the stick when it comes to one major life-quality issue — access to a toilet. Reddit user ina_rs shared a splitscreen video to the platform that shows just how long it takes to run from the Hufflepuff Common Room to two of the castle’s closest restrooms, and even sped up significantly, the video takes 26 seconds, as the player character sprints up and down multiple sets of stairs from the castle basement before finally reaching a bathroom. The bathroom on the right side of the screen is reached a few seconds before the video ends, but to add insult to injury, it appears to be the dreaded Chamber of Secrets bathroom. While the video starts in one of the bedrooms, it appears to take more than 100 paces running at full tilt for a player character to reach the nearest bathroom from the front entrance to the common room.
Hogwarts Bathrooms are Hard to Reach for Hufflepuffs
Other players have pointed out that some other students at Hogwarts have access to bathrooms built directly into their common areas. Ravenclaw House depicted in Hogwarts Legacy has full bathrooms with bathtubs, showers, sinks, and toilets installed directly into its student living quarters, as does Gryffindor, although its bathrooms are only accessible up the stairs to the girls’ side of the dormitories. While fellow basement-dweller house Slytherin doesn’t come with built-in bathroom facilities, there is one not far from the entrance. Some others have even pointed out the well-documented lore that before the muggle plumbing system was installed around 1700, students and staff would relieve themselves in the hallways and use Evanesco, the vanishing charm, to clean it up.
While the lack of bathrooms near the common room may be cause for roleplay-heavy players to choose a different house, it’s not all bad in Hufflepuff. After all, the Hogwarts Legacy Hufflepuff exclusive quest is the only way players will get to see famous wizard prison Azkaban depicted in the game.
