Aventurine is an interesting tank character in Honkai: Star Rail. While his main job is to keep the team alive, his kit is also designed around dealing as much damage as possible with follow-up attacks, making him a hybrid sustain/damage unit.
Given his two-faced playstyle, building Aventurine involves a bit more nuance compared to the rest of Honkai: Star Rail’s Preservation characters. Here’s a general overview covering some important things to know about the gambler, including his best relic sets, preferred stats, and Light Cone choices.
Honkai: Star Rail Players Aren’t Happy With the Relic System
Honkai: Star Rail players express their frustration over the game’s relic system, which they think is unrewarding and restrictive.

Unlike many other Preservation characters, half of Aventurine’s value comes from his offensive prowess. In a way, he fills a similar niche to March 7th in the general HSR landscape — both provide shields, perform counter-attacks, and prevent enemies from taking their turn. However, Aventurine grants a stacking shield to all party members, while March can only provide a shield (one that can heal and cleanse given enough Eidolons) to one ally at a time.
Due to Aventurine’s focus on follow-up attacks, a combination of the Pioneer Diver and Grand Duke sets is the most optimal all-around pick when it comes to his Relics. Here, he’ll get a decent damage boost against all enemies, especially those inflicted with debuffs. If you plan on using him with a debuff-heavy team, then consider using a full four-piece Pioneer Diver set so he can get increased CRIT stats.
When building Aventurine as a Sub-DPS, max out his Talent first. If building him as a traditional tank, prioritize his Skill and Ultimate equally. If you don’t plan on maxing out his kit, then get his abilities to Level 7 at the very least.
The Inert Salsotto Planar Ornament set is great for damage-oriented characters. However, if you’re bringing Aventurine to Pure Fiction, then Sigonia, The Unclaimed Desolation is the better choice. The synergy between Aventurine and the Sigonia ornament set is enough to get him on the list of best characters to use for Star Rail’s Pure Fiction activity.
As far as stats go, DEF, SPD, and CRIT are the ones to prioritize. Aventurine’s Skill and Ultimate scale off his DEF, and since he deals so much damage so frequently, you’ll want to give him at least 50% CRIT Rate to get good value from his kit.
Best Aventurine Light Cones
Inherently Unjust Destiny is Aventurine’s signature Light Cone, and it’s likely the best option players can use for him, just like with all other Honkai: Star Rail characters and their respective signature LCs. Strengthens his shields and follow-up attack damage while granting his follow-up attacks a chance to increase the damage taken by the attacked enemy for two turns. This Light Cone works especially as it lets Aventurine inflict two debuffs (with the other coming from his Ultimate). With this equipped, he can enjoy the four-piece Pioneer Diver bonus even without having a second or third debuffer in the team.
The Moment of Victory Light Cone from the Standard Banner is quite as ideal, but it is still fairly good on Aventurine. The Effect Hit Rate boost will help make sure that Aventurine’s Ultimate always applies the Unnerved debuff, which increases the CRIT DMG taken by the target.
For those who don’t have these 5-Star Light Cone, Trend of the Universal Market and Concert For Two are great alternatives. Both also improve Aventurine’s DEF and damage potential, with the former inflicting Burn on enemies and the latter increasing the DMG that its wearer deals for every shielded character on the field.
