The first announcement of LIttle Kitty, Big City back in 2021 immediately drew comparisons to Untitled Goose Game, and for good reason. In Untitled Goose Game, players take the role of a goose, as the game’s name suggests. The choice to title the game Untitled Goose Game is a great preview of what the game’s overall humor is like, as players cause absolute chaos in a town while controlling the titular goose. Little Kitty, Big City embraces this style of gameplay and humor, but in the form of a cat, and it’s a great pairing.

For those who are familiar with the behaviors of a house cat, they are known to be a great representation of what it means to be chaotic neutral. From sleeping on laptop keyboards to pushing mugs off of coffee tables just to see what will happen, cats are the perfect choice of animal to bring chaos to a city. Since Untitled Goose Game launched, it has brought some great in-game moments to life because of the hilarious antics that are possible, and Little Kitty, Big City picks up the mantle.
An Exciting Indie Debut
This is the first release from indie developer Double Dagger Studio, and it’s a great title to have as a debut. Untitled Goose Game continues to be a title that brings a lot of amusing moments to life, as it’s a fairly low-stress game to spend time playing. Little Kitty, Big City brings this gameplay back into the spotlight, but the game’s cat protagonist is arguably an even better fit for this style of humor and mechanics.
In Little Kitty, Big City, players can make art, explore construction sites, and even gather some great collectibles, but the cozy chaos that players can instill in the citizens of the city is definitely the highlight of the game. There is a lot to explore in Little Kitty, Big City, but there are also plenty of ways to wreak havoc, just like Untitled Goose Game. Whether it’s catching birds, eliciting a reaction from NPCs encountering the cat, or making city-goers trip over themselves by getting tangled under their feet, the game truly embraces what it’s like to be a cat.
Little Kitty, Big City and Animal-Based Games
Little Kitty, Big City may immediately cause some to think of Untitled Goose Game, but there are other fun animal-based games that the game also clearly takes some inspiration from. Untitled Goose Game is the clear starting point for the game’s tone and some of the gameplay mechanics, but when it comes to studying the behavior of cats in video games, Stray is also a great game that nails a cat’s mannerisms. Goat Simulator could even be considered a small point of inspiration, even though the tone of that series is a lot more over-the-top.
Having a cat protagonist works perfectly because it gives cat enthusiasts a way to immerse themselves in a little feline explorer just as much as it allows for fun gameplay moments where one can experience first-hand the sometimes chaotic nature of cats. Yet, Little Kitty, Big City embraces the non-human protagonist in an exciting way that still has enough familiarity to draw in players. In recent years, animal-based stories have found a comfortable place in the world of indie developers, and it will be exciting to see how Little Kitty, Big City inspires future games the same way that Untitled Goose Game may have with this one.
