By default in Subnautica 2, mobility is very slow. While you can pull off some movement tech with the Air Bladder and the Dash ability, you’ll be moving at a snail’s pace for a majority of the early game. However, all of that changes when you gain access to the Wakemaker. The Wakemaker is Subnautica 2’s version of the original game’s Sea Glider, and it’s an equipment item you can use to swim faster.
While you’ll want to start using the Wakemaker as quickly as possible, there are a few different steps you need to take before that happens.
How to find the Wakemaker Fragments in Subnautica 2
Similar to the Tadpole, the Habitat Builder, and just about every other important tool in Subnautica 2, you can only obtain the crafting recipe for the Wakemaker after scanning all of its fragments. To craft the Wakemaker, you need to find three total fragments.
Fortunately, there are several Wakemaker fragments scattered around the various shipwrecks, outposts, and colonies on the ocean floor of Proteus. Here are three quick locations of fragments so you can easily move on to crafting the Wakemaker:
- Located roughly 200 meters away from the Lifepod, head southeast and go 20-25 meters down. Here, you’ll see a platform with some desks and boxes, and inside one of the boxes is a Wakemaker fragment.
- Head northwest and 100 meters away from the Lifepod to find some wreckage on a cliffside. The Wakemaker fragment is located in a box on the edge of the cliff near coral.
- Go straight north from the Lifepod for 125 meters. Head down roughly 30 meters and you’ll see a small cavern where an outpost was set up. Inside a box in the cavern is the final Wakemaker fragment.
How to craft the Wakemaker in Subnautica 2
With all three Wakemaker fragments in hand, you’re ready to craft it. However, it’s imperative that you have a base set up and build a Fabricator inside that’s powered up. If you try to craft the Wakemaker at the Lifepod Fabricator, you’ll see that it’s not powerful enough to do so.
All you need to do is build a room with a hatch using your Habitat Builder, craft a Fabricator inside, and then place a few Solar Panels on top of the room. This will power the base and the Fabricator and let you craft the Wakemaker, and you’ll need the following resources:
- 1x Silver
- 1x Wiring Kit
- 1x Grease
- 1x Basic Battery

All of those resources are fairly easy to obtain, with the Silver being located in a nearby location to the Lifepod and needed for both the ore and the Wiring Kit. The Grease is easily made from Lucifer Rotsac and the Basic Battery just needs copper and Acidic Raion Pouches.
Once you have all those materials, you can craft the Wakemaker. You’ll want to assign the Wakemaker to one of your inventory hotbar slots, as you’ll be using it quite often in Subnautica 2. For more help in your underwater adventures, check out our Subnautica 2 guides hub.
