How to Get Past Thunder Blockers in Metroid Prime 4

How to Get Past Thunder Blockers in Metroid Prime 4

There are three elemental shots in Metroid Prime 4, and the Thunder Shot is the last one that players will unlock. Not only does this shot allow players to get past Thunder Blockers, it can also be used to power a variety of dormant objects. As such, Metroid Prime 4‘s Thunder Shot is critical to reaching the end of the game, and this guide details how it is obtained.

For those players who want to keep spoilers to a minimum, it may be enough to know that the Thunder Shot cannot be earned until after the boss at the end of Flare Pool is defeated.

Pre-Requisites

As is the case with the other elemental shots in Metroid Prime 4, the Thunder Shot can be unlocked after collecting the associated chip. Before players can pursue the Thunder Chip, they must do the following:

  1. Unlock Vi-O-La IC Mode in Volt Forge. This is possible after defeating Keratos in the Ice Belt and unlocking Psychic Boost Ball.
  2. Use Vi-O-La IC Mode to cross the lava pool and enter the Flare Pool facility. Work through this area and defeat Phenoros to earn Psychic Grapple.

After unlocking Psychic Grapple, players should return to Volt Forge and descend through Tower 1 until they reach the Collapsed Catwalk. Notably, players will see the area beyond this room as unexplored on the in-game map, making it quite easy to locate. That said, the Collapsed Catwalk has been marked on the preceding map for the sake of full clarity.

Once you reach the Collapsed Catwalk, use your newly-unlocked Psychic Grapple to cross the room. Now simply follow the path to reach a room filled with Lamorn power cells. There is a malfunctioning power cell on the west side of the room, and players should scan its damaged cover and use the Grapple Lasso to remove it. This will make the Thunder Chip accessible, and players can interact with the object to collect it.

Players should be prepared for a boss battle that occurs in the room with the Thunder Chip.

What to Do With Thunder Chip in Metroid Prime 4

After collecting the Thunder Chip, players can make their way back to Myles in Fury Green, who will transform the chip into Thunder Shot. This is a process that players will be very familiar with at this point, as they will have already used it to obtain Ice Shot and Fire Shot, and Thunder Shot will be automatically assigned to the d-pad once it is unlocked.
