How To Share Videos And Screenshots

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream’s demo dropped yesterday, and already players are posting some unhinged videos and screenshots from the game. However, you’ll notice most of these are probably coming from people’s phones and not from their Switch system’s typical share features. That’s because Nintendo has restricted those features with this game specifically in an effort to keep any naughty words or adult situations that may arise away from young eyes. It’s not stopping clips from spreading, as folks have just been using their phones to take videos and pictures and just sharing them on social media that way. But if you’re trying to get some of these clips from your Switch to social media in pristine condition rather than just by filming your screen with your phone, there’s a way to do that. It’s just a little more elaborate.

If you want to post direct capture of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream from your Switch to your feeds, you can extract those clips and images directly from your device by using a USB-C wire that plugs into your computer. Which one you need will depend on your hardware, as some computers don’t have a USB-A or USB-C port for you to plug the Switch into, so see what port your computer has before you try this. If you have a Switch 2, the charging cord should work just fine, as it has a USB-C to USB-C line that will work on some devices, like this Macbook I’m typing this on.

Once you do that, you can go to the Data Management folder and access all your screenshots and captured video and then just transfer them to your computer for easy use. This is great if you’re trying to edit footage for a video, TikTok, Reel, or what have you. I will admit, there’s something kind of nostalgic about seeing Tomodachi Life clips recorded from a phone, as so many of the original 3DS game’s most viral moments were captured on phones during the Vine era, but in this age of premium video content, I know not everyone wants to give up quality for the sake of the bit. So use this method to get around Nintendo’s restrictions and post your Miis saying out-of-pocket shit.
