How To Tame All Animals In Hytale

How To Tame All Animals In Hytale

When Hytale was released, you could find and interact with a slew of different mobs. From enemies with weapons to peaceful animals wandering a meadow, these mobs are all over the map, regardless of your world seed. However, if you tried to tame one of the many animals in Hytale, as you can do in Minecraft, you were met with some disappointment, as that feature wasn’t live when the game launched.

Fortunately, the developers at Hypixel have been releasing constant updates since release, and a new update has added the ability to tame animals in Hytale. Below, you can see how the taming process works and the items needed to tame all possible animals you can find throughout the world.

How taming animals works in Hytale

As you might have expected, taming animals in Hytale is extremely similar to the way it works in Minecraft. However, the developers have stressed that the current version of taming is basic and in the early stages of development, so it could change down the line as Hytale progresses through early access.

The way taming works in Hytale is as follows:

  • You must be in Adventure mode; Creative mode doesn’t allow for taming
  • Find a friendly animal in Hytale, which are basically all of the domestic animals (cows, horses, deer, etc)
  • Approach it while its favorite food in your hand. All animals have a specific food they like that is required to tame them
  • With the food in your hand, use that food on the animal while standing close to it. You should see “tame” button appear if the animal can be tamed
  • If done correctly, you should see hearts appear above the animal’s head. If you don’t see hearts, attempt to feed the food to the animal again and try standing closer
  • When an animal is tamed, they will occasionally greet you and won’t run away from you unless it is hit
  • You can pet, milk, shear, and mount tamed animals depending on what they are (for example, you can’t milk or mount a chicken, but you can milk a cow and mount a horse)

Naturally, the biggest element of the taming process is learning what each animal’s favorite food is and then acquiring that food. Without that knowledge or the food itself, you will only be able to capture animals, not fully tame them in the way the game intends.

While you can try to figure out an animal’s favorite food through trial and error, you can just keep reading to easily see what to feed each animal in Hytale.

All animals and how to tame them in Hytale

To make this process much easier for players, Hytale actually tells you what an animal’s favorite food is before you do anything. When you approach a passive animal, you’ll see the “tame” button appear. If you press that button, you’ll see a picture of the animal’s favorite food pop above their head. From there, it’s all about knowing what that food is and how to get it.

If you just want to see what food you need, though, we have a list of every known tameable animal in Hytale and their favorite food below:

  • Chicken – Corn
  • Sheep – Lettuce
  • Cow – Lettuce
  • Horse – Carrot
  • Bison – Cauliflower
  • Warthog – Onion
  • Camel – Tomato
  • Goat – Apple
  • Mosshorn – Potato
  • Rabbit – Carrot
  • Pig – Turnip
  • Wild Pig – Eggplant
  • Ram – Apple
  • Mouflon – Apple
  • Desert Chicken – Cotton
  • Turkey – Corn
  • Skrill – Chili

This is the list we have right now, but there very well could be additional animals that can be tamed that are currently unknown. Of course, since you have to play in Adventure, you have to physically grow or find all of these different food items to tame all possible animals in Hytale.

How to interact with tamed animals in Hytale

Finally, the last part of the taming process is actually using your tamed animals for a certain function. As we mentioned earlier, you can pet, ride, milk, and shear animals if they allow it.

Luckily, this isn’t overly difficult, as once again, all you need to do is interact with a tamed animal to see what interactable option appears. For example, if you approach a tamed horse, you’ll see the option to mount it appear (“press F to mount”). If you approach a cow, you’ll see “press F to milk.”

Not all animals will have an interactable option, but all can be petted with an empty hand if you get close enough. You can also feed animals their favorite food again, but not all of the time. If an animal is hungry, you can feed it its favorite food from your inventory just like you did when originally taming them.

You’ll also find that tamed animals tend to follow you around after you initially tame them, so it’s best to make some enclosures to put all of your newfound pets. Of course, if you want a large ram or camel following you throughout Hytale, then you can take that route as well.

That about covers it for the animal taming process in Hytale. To see more guides, make sure to check out our full Hytale Guides Hub, which has different how-tos on many different parts of the game.
