If You Are Buying a PS5 for GTA 6, You Need to Do It NOW

When Grand Theft Auto 6 launches later this year, it will be strictly on consoles, with no PC port announced at the time of this writing. This is in line with how Rockstar Games has handled PC ports in the past. It took two years for Grand Theft Auto 5 to come to PC, and over a year for Red Dead Redemption 2 to make the jump. It’s unclear exactly how long the wait will be from when Grand Theft Auto 6 hits consoles and when the game will be available on PC.

Regardless, GTA 6 skipping PC at launch means that any gamer that wants to play the highly-anticipated open world game when it releases on November 19 will have two choices. One, they can buy a PlayStation 5, or two, they can buy an Xbox Series X/S. Even though the PS5 has sold over 75 million units at this point, there are still millions of gamers that have been waiting for something like GTA 6 before upgrading, and those individuals may want to pull the trigger sooner rather than later.

Citing global economic conditions, Sony has announced plans to increase the cost of all its PlayStation 5 console models. Beginning April 2, a standard PS5 with a disc drive is going to cost $649.99, a $150 increase from how much it cost when it originally launched in 2020 and a $100 increase from what it costs right now. The PS5 Digital Edition’s price is going up to $599.99, jumping by the exact same dollar amount as the disc-based console. The price of the PS5 Pro, meanwhile, is going up to $899.99. Historically, the cost of video game consoles has always gone down as generations have gone on, and so it’s understandable that many are upset about this move. Regardless, unless Sony lowers the cost of PS5 consoles later this year, it means that you are potentially going to have to pay more when GTA 6 comes out, so if you’re planning on doing it, and you have the means, you are most likely better off just buying one now.

There have been rumblings that GTA 6‘s price could also be inflated when it finally hits store shelves later this year, but that has yet to be confirmed. Some analysts have suggested that GTA 6 should retail for $100 a pop, but Take-Two has suggested that the game will most likely cost somewhere in the $70 to $80 range like most modern AAA video games. Specifics on GTA 6‘s price have yet to be hammered out, but hopefully we will get more information on that front sooner rather than later.

There have also been rumblings that GTA 6 Trailer 3 could be dropping at some point in the near future, with some expecting it to finally hit the internet in April. Whenever the next GTA 6 trailer drops, it’s believed that the game will then go up for pre-order, which would in turn reveal how much it costs. Nothing official to that effect has been announced though, so fans should keep their expectations in check. Since GTA 6 was announced three years ago, there have only been two trailers released, after all.

But if GTA 6 is releasing on November 19 as is the current plan, one has to imagine that the marketing for the game will pick up significantly in the months ahead. This should mean new trailers, gameplay showcases, hands-on previews, and a look at additional game modes like GTA 6‘s inevitable online multiplayer component. Of course, this is all assuming that GTA 6 isn’t hit with another delay, which is totally within the realm of possibility.
