If You Can't Wait For Oblivion On Switch 2, Play Dread Delusion's Upcoming Port Instead

If you’re disappointed that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’s recently announced Nintendo Switch 2 port only has a vague 2026 release window, then you’ll be happy to hear a great indie alternative is coming to Switch 2 this spring.

I’m referring to Dread Delusion, a psychedelic RPG inspired by classic The Elder Scrolls games like Morrowind that was previously only available on PC. Today, developer Lovely Hellspace and publisher DreadXP announced that Dread Delusion is getting console ports this spring.

While it’ll also be on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, the Switch 2 version is the most exciting in the wake of Oblivion Remastered’s announcement. It’ll also be publisher DreadXP’s first release on Nintendo’s latest console.

With just a quick look at Dread Delusion, you can see it’s a retro throwback to the RPG era that served as the genesis for series like The Elder Scrolls. It’s an open-world game set on an archipelago of floating islands under duress because of a curse. Players explore, make choices, and fight a lot of grotesque enemies, all through blocky visuals that have the look of early 2000s PC games.

Dread Delusion is even trippier than Morrowind ever was, so don’t expect it to be a straight-up Elder Scrolls clone. Still, if you’re looking for something to scratch your Switch 2 open-world RPG itch ahead of Oblivion Remastered’s release and don’t want to settle for Skyrim’s sub-par port, then Dread Delusion is worth a look.

It’s already available on PC, and will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 sometime this spring.
